The guest house was very light and airy, well decorated and very clean. Our room had AC, fan, fridge and kettle. Right on the beach and we enjoyed watching the fishing boats bringing in the fish and local children playing right outside. Eldridge was very helpful and friendly and arranged tuk tuks for us

The breakfast buffet was very good and the quality of treatments at the spa did not disapoint.
However, we were disappointed with the general professionalism of the staff considering it is a 5 star resort. The staff was kind and friendly but just not up to the standard one would expect of a 5 star hotel. Here are a few examples: at the pool we ordered some food and when we were going to sign for the bill, the waiter said they had made a mistake and charged us for a dish that was 0.50 USD more than what we had ordered. He asked us if we didn't mind paying the extra amount so that they didn't need to redo the bill. Of course we didn't mind as its such a small difference (so we accepted) but out of principle, if a mistake is made by the staff, they should know to just fix the error rather than asking the guest to make up for their mistake (however small). We were also disappointed at dinner that the two a la carte restaurants were only open on alternate nights as it meant we couldn't get a table until 9 pm which is late with kids. Also the first wines we tried to order were out of stock. Finally on the second night at the Italian, three of the dishes we chose were unavailable. This is understandable as it is end of season, but again is not expected at a 5 star hotel. That said, the quality of the food at the Italian was really very good.
As for the rooms, although comfortable, the extra maintenance effort is lacking. The hot and cold water in the shower was very difficult to control; the light in the small magnifying mirror in the bathroom was not working and the main telephone in the room did not work.
Lastly, we visited the spa and although the overall experience was very good and the therapists were experienced, it was disappointing to have to wait over half an hour (after our scheduled appointment time) for our treatments.
Overall, this felt more of a 3-4 star hotel than 5 star.

The hotel itself probably needs an uplift e.g. pool deck is old, pool lounge chairs are broken, walls need a new coat of paint, however we enjoyed our stay as the pool and hotel surroundings are quite nice. Food at the restaurant was surprisingly good. Room was large and air cond worked well, beds are big. Bathroom needs updating but shower was strong and good temperature. Overall, a good hotel but don’t expect 5 stars.

A short distance from Colombo, Katutura is ideal for a long weekend if you are based in Colombo. There are plenty of things to see in the area and you can always arrange a visit to Galle through your hotel.

Just the right location.
Just the right location. Not too far from Colombo but has the nice secluded feel, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Close to a lot of places to visit - Kalutara temple, Bentota for water sports, Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery.
Overall, a great place to be in!!

The area is quite, and not far from water sports activities.
The area is quite, and not far from water sports activities. The problem is that there are no decent restaurants or coffees near by. You are opted to only eat at the hotel, unless you are adventurous. You are better off to go a bit more south or north and close to the capital to find reasonable restaurants and coffees etc. If you like to each and just stay within the resort then you will be OK as hotels in the area offer everything you need.

Kalutara is a great place for a short stay.
Kalutara is a great place for a short stay. While it is not as crowded with tourists and activities when compared with her neighbouring districts Colombo and Galle, it is quite special in it's own simplicity. The sights generally known to see are few and are quite close too each other. A day to sightsee and enjoy the city, a day to enjoy the hotel and it's facilities and a day for the beach and surrounding neighbourhood is in my opinion the ideal way to plan a trip to Kalutara.
The best place you must visit in my opinion is Jeoffrey Bava's garden. The place is great to walk around, take some beautiful photos and run around a little.

In one word: outstanding holidays. Design of the hotel: marvelous tropical modernist style designed by the leader of the movement, Geoffrey Bawa. Tropical nature all around. Luxury rooms. Lagoon. Sound of ocean and birds. Food excellent. And the most important people and their outstanding service. My host was Uneska and all credits go to her for such wonderful time in Kalutara. Don’t miss this place. Perfect to combine with another one Bawa’s masterpiece in Sigiriya.
Anil was a fabulous host- very helpful and attentive at all times. His cooking was lovely. Prithi ( spelt right?) was always on hand with his tuk tuk!
The room was clean and spacious with a lovely sunny balcony. 5 minute walk from shops and restaurants. Although there was no beach to speak of, Anil supplied sun beds in the lovely garden , and brought us complimentary bananas and water melon! A lovely introduction to Sri Lanka - thank you Anil you were brilliant!
It is rather small hotel 20-22 villas, situated in a beautiful green garden with a nice pool and access to a large and long beach. We stayed in a single unit villa. The highlights of the villa are the large bathroom with open air part and the large and comfortable bed.
The restaurant of the hotel is a highlight too - very good food choices and quality (morning and evening buffet), as well as the service.
The hotel is one of the biggest in Waskaduwa and the rooms are very good and sea facing. The pool is pretty big and the amenities around the pool are good. The breakfast and ala carte menu as well as buffet have very good options. There are regular shows in the portico of the hotel even during the crisis time in April 2022.
