Absolute beachfront with safe swimming for kids directly out front. Walk to 3 surf breaks. The place to be for surf on the doorstep. Watch the surf all day from the hotel sun lounges. Great value for money especially for a family. Quite a few good restaurants walkable.

I spent two amazing nights at Morena Hotel and I can’t recommend it enough! The view is absolutely stunning, with the hotel located right in front of the sea. Every moment there felt magical, especially on the beautiful rooftop terrace, perfect for relaxing, enjoying the sunset, or having a great meal.
Speaking of food, it was incredibly delicious, way beyond our expectations! The whole place has a super chill and relaxing vibe, ideal for truly disconnecting. The small private beach is a wonderful bonus—peaceful and very pleasant.
Our room was spotless, very clean, with a breathtaking view of the ocean—waking up to that was a dream.
The only small downside was the limited Wi-Fi access, which was quite restricted. But in the end, it actually helped us enjoy the moment even more, away from screens and fully immersed in the experience. An unforgettable stay in a dreamy setting!

The beautiful environment and the villa facing the river and the lake inside the garden as well and beach is just 100m. Lovely doggies and pupies were there to spend my holiday more lovelier.
The owner is a well educated and welcoming lady who always willing to help me in her guidance 🙏 in travelling Srilanka and lot more other topics as well.
I felt I had the best Srilankan experience being there staying with the team there and seeing lots of birds as well who lives in the mangrove forest surrounding. The best thing is it has a less mosquitoe density compared to other places nearby. It is due to the sea water and river water mixture which prevents them breeding I think.
The lush garden has hammocks and sitting areas as well. I love to be there again very soon in my next tour.

Midigama might be cute, but this noisy, super busy main street running directly through it next to the beaches just ruins it a little bit... at least if you looking for serene beach views and relaxed atmosphere.
a little gem tho: wild beach cafe!

Good spot for intermediate and advanced surfers, down to earth place, small enough that you meet a lot of people. Good value for money
Weligama is big and a bit of a circus but the best place for beginners to surf
Ahangama is more expensive, older crowd with more up market boutique hotels restaurants etc, more expensive than Midigama
Don’t be afraid to use the buses, they are awesome, TUK TUKs are cool too but more expensive
Midigama to Ahangama is 40r on the bus or 500-800 on TUK TUK
NB there were police road blocks checking licences. If you hire a scooter you need a permit from columbo I think. Many don’t bother, but carry some cash because you may have to pay off the cops 🤷♂️

The place was in a walking distance to the center but in a quiet road.
The guys managing the place were really cleaning it 3-4 times per day. I havent seen a cleaner place in Sri Lanka so far. They helped me with everything I asked for both internally and externally. The offer/price balance is the best. I would definitely return and recommend
