The old town and harbour are beautiful and full of character. It is very easy and cheap to use the local busses to get around,€2 flat fee and the ticket lasts for 2 hours. We stayed next to Merchants Street, well worth a visit with the food market and lots of great restaurants and cafes. There is so much choice of eating places and all very reasonably priced. We took the fast ferry over to Gozo for the day, a 45 minute ride which costs €6 each for a return journey.A good place to start a visit is the Malta Experience by Fort St Elmo. It tells the history of Malta which we found fascinating and you also get to visit the old hospital that was established by the knights of St John.

Have been a regular business visitor since the late 80s .
Have been a regular business visitor since the late 80s . The city unrecognisable from its pre EU days. Was always a bit dead and dull with not much going on. No longer. Full of life, spectacular to look at and experience. Vibrant , busy, ever - changing. Would not stay anywhere else in Malta. So many good bars and restaurants. My favourite restaurants the wonderful Giannini overlooking Sliema and the Kings own band club in Republic St. Dom's Kapitani bar on Old Bakery Street for brilliant selection of local and international craft beer abd snacks. Now more accessible than it was but the geography is still a problem dor those with mobility issues.

Very compact city so everything is walkable. Easy access to a very efficient bus service if you want to go further afield. Don't pay for a tourist buspass: cheaper to pay-as-you-go if you are staying in Valletta or ferrying between the city and Sliema / 3 Cities. Excellent museums.

Valletta: A Golden Gem by the Sea
Valletta: A Golden Gem by the Sea
Valletta isn’t just a city—it’s a story carved in stone. From the moment you pass through its gates, you’re surrounded by golden facades, baroque churches, and winding streets that feel like scenes from a timeless film.
Despite its size, Valletta has a grand presence. Locals are warm, the sea breeze is constant, and the views—especially from the Upper Barrakka Gardens—are breathtaking. Watching the sun set over the Grand Harbour is pure magic.
Food here is a blend of Mediterranean heart and Maltese soul. Fresh pastizzi, seafood, and strong coffee in sunlit squares made me feel completely at home.
It’s a place to slow down, to wander, to feel. Valletta didn’t just charm me—it stayed with me.

Absolutely beautiful and so much character.
Absolutely beautiful and so much character. The history was the main attraction when we decided to visit, but the range of excellent restaurants and bars ensured a great stay. The Maltese people are also really friendly and welcoming despite being overrun with tourists.

The location of the hotel is excellent! Right in the city centre, a few minutes walk from bars and restaurants.
The size of the room is good however the aesthetic and the decoration can be improved. The bathroom was clean and clean towels were provided everyday! The breakfast had a big variety of things but nothing special. There are many better options for breakfast around the town. Overall this hotel is a good option if you are going to spend most of your day outside.
We spent 5 beautiful days at La Falconeria hotel. It can be found right in the centre of Valletta, close to the main sights and the central bus station, too. We enjoyed our stay here very much! Our room was spacious and very clean (daily cleaning was offered) and the hotel staff was very-very kind and helpful! The breakfast and the capuccino was delicious. I would definitely recomend to book at this hotel for anybody who wants to visit Malta.
Perfect to explore the city as it is very close to the city centre. Beautiful view from the top as seen on the picture of the hotel. Classy facility. The selection for the breakfast could be bigger, but the egg benedict is superior.
