Kumara Historic Cottages features a garden, shared lounge, a restaurant and bar in Kumara.

Great to have the restaurant across the street. Common areas allow for meeting other travelers. Our room faced away from the road so very little traffic noise.

Providing sea views, Awatuna Sunset Lodge in Hokitika provides accommodations, a garden, a private beach area, a shared lounge, a restaurant and a bar.

Amazing location with so many personal touches! Elizabeth greeted me by name when we drove up and then gave us a tour of the whole facility. They serve home-cooked dinner if you order in advance and it was delicious. Breakfast was also excellent. Much of the food is grown and made by them. Beautiful location right overlooking the beach. It was a bit of a walk to get down to the sand due to a canal that cuts across the property but it is still doable. To top it all off, Selwyn gave us a ride in his amphibious vehicle, which floated through the canal and then went right back up the sand. We had an amazing time.

Featuring a garden, Mont's Cottage features accommodations in Awatuna. This property offers access to a terrace, free private parking, and free Wifi.

The property is in an excellent location just a short drive to Hokitika and Greymouth. The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped and the fresh fruit, eggs, milk and bread were very welcome. Although it is only a short way off the highway it was quiet as the traffic did die down considerably in the evening. The only thing to note is that a train came through every morning around 5am which we did hear and feel in the property. Overall though this is a lovely property with a really nice garden and we enjoyed our stay here.

With Greymouth Train Station reachable in 17 miles, Awatuna Homestead offers accommodations, a restaurant, a private beach area, a garden, and a shared lounge.

Everything. Lovely hosts and clean house. The beds are super comfortable; we woke up to beautiful garden view outside the window. It was considerate to prepare various drinks (although we didn’t have chance to enjoy) aside from milk in the fridge, as well as candies and banana muffins (delicious).

I like that it is very clean and well maintained. Definitely very comfortable stay for me and my family. The hotel has a restaurant too and food were fantastic. We had our dinner and breakfast there. The ribs were so good.

The word "Retreat" in the title gave me the expectation of luxurious accomodation with fully contained rooms, spas etc. None of that, which was disappointing. A small private holiday park would cover it better.

We had a larger group of 4 families of different sizes, the villa and cabin options fitted with our agenda and stay perfectly. We did a lot of driving and exploring during the day and cooked at home / played games in the evening. It was a lot of fun.

it was a good location for sightseeing further around the area and for exploring on foot or bike. Be aware of the insects though and make sure you have repellent with you. The 'town' itself is very quiet. I would strongly recommend staying at the Hotel Theatre Royal. Clean, comfortable, interesting, great staff and good food.

We came to Kumara specifically to stay at the Greenstone Retreat.....travelling the South Island, on the list was Fish n Chips on the Beach by the famous 'Hokitika' Sign to watch the sunset!!! We did this, and Kumara was just a skip away to stay.

Close to the West Coast Wilderness Cycle Trail, Kumara...

Close to the West Coast Wilderness Cycle Trail, Kumara Historic Cottage is a backpackers with basic yet comfortable accommodation that fits the cost which was very reasonable. Comfortable beds and the living room was OK for four of us - would be cramped with a full quota of guests. Kitchen basic. No separate toilet. If you want less basic accommodation, the pub has rooms available. Main grizzle was the lack of TV channels available - one channel (Prime) is no choice and when it is pouring outside there is very little to do in Kumara! On the bright side, the pub opens at 4:00pm in the afternoon and the coffee, beer, and meals are good. One real bonus is the safe storage of your bike in a locked shed in which you can recharge your battery if you have an ebike. If a number of ebikes need to recharge, some may have to wait their turn so it pays to connect up - if you can - when you arrive.

Liked the proximity to the pub - the only place in Kumara for a meal - and the West Coast Wilderness Cycle Trail. Comfortable bed and the living room was also comfortable. Very safe storage for our bikes in a specialised locked shed, it was across the road in the grounds of the pub, and which also had the facilities for charging ebike batteries - a real bonus

Stunning Gardens! The lantern lights that lit up in the evenings around the gardens was beautiful. Our 11yr old always escaped in the Den to play darts. Great selection of board games, ring toss & a trampoline kept him busy which was great. The Wifi coverage was 💯 times better than the fancy 5 star hotels 😊

Beautiful old hotel. Clean and comfortable. Good secure bike storage. Great food and amazing staff. We couldn’t ride on the second day due to rain and had to wait for a a ride. The lovely staff offered us a lounge to sit and wait with coffee and tea and wifi. this was for bout 3 hours after checkout time.

Super easy location as it was right beside the Westcoast Wilderness trail which we were biking. Lovely old cottage, peaceful location. Friendly host who was welcoming in her emails and had good suggestions for what to do in Kumara.
