Stayed one night. It was a little bit of a splurge compared to other places we stayed in NZ but was worth it. Very comfortable, clean, great location with a view of the lake and easy walk to restaurants. One of the few places we stayed that had AC and we appreciated being able to cool down the room without letting bugs into open windows at night.

Pros:
We were pleasantly surprised with a free upgrade to a more spacious apartment, which gave us plenty of room to relax.
The overall layout was comfortable, and it felt more like a home than a hotel.
Cons:
Unfortunately, the air conditioning was only in the living room, making the bedrooms quite warm during the day.
The living room carpet was noticeably dirty, which was disappointing given the overall quality of the space.
Small details were overlooked — for example, there were no paper towels provided, which would have been useful.
While off-street parking was available, the space was too narrow for easy use, forcing us to park on the street.
Overall, the stay had its positives, but a few improvements could make it much better.

Greedy Cow Cafe has lots of delicious breakfast items and our favorites are their croissant with bacon/chicken or ham/cheese and bacon/egg. Coffee is up to standard. Price is reasonable! Nice seating area. Restaurants in the area have limited choices on the menu and prices are on the high side. Best to get some quality local products ie lamb rack and salmon from the nearby Four Square supermarket and cook in the apartment.

Lake Tekapo is a beautiful Lake indeed, but the restaurants were incredibly expensive, and the food was average. It's reasonably close to Mt Cook, and there are numerous beautiful hikes to do. There is only one ATM in the town at the Four Square Supermarket, and they charge a whopping $7.00 to get cash out. Having said that, if you planned properly, you could get your groceries, and cash from either Christchurch or Queenstown large supermarkets such as Woolworths, and cook your own food if you have the facilities. The scenery on The Hooker Valley walk near Mt Cook was just spectacular, and the view of Lake Tekapo from St John Observer atory was fantastic also. Entrance to this facility is $8.00 per car. We did a boat tour on the Tasman Lake on a beautiful sunny day, and were able to get up close to some very large icebergs. The mountains surrounding the lake are awesome with a snow capped Mt Cook in the Centre. So many other adventures are also available. The boat tour was with Glacier Explorers, and we thought it was brilliant. There is a 1.5klm walk to reach the Lake, but it's mostly flat. So much to do and see, so Lake Tekapo is a great spot to spend a few days....or more

You would freeze with the amazing views and also with the temperatures. If rooms with central heating are essential, the stunning scenery outside will make you brave the cold. Moreover, you will find nice cafes and pleasant restaurants with good meals and good people, who will make you feel warmly welcome.

Excellent place to stay with amazing views and good facilities. Great options for eating out and leisure activities. Perfect base for visiting Aoraki Mount Cook (get up early and head there for sunrise) and nearby Lake Pukaki. Star gazing a good option if your interested. Plenty of accommodation choices too.

I went for Star Watching, unfortunately cancelled due to cloud. The Dark Sky Project Team gave a full refund. The facility there is very good.
If you are going to eat out book in advance. Restaurants were all very busy.
Generally a very 'tourist' based town.

Loved the location of our cabin with view of lake and so accessible. Loved the convenience of activities like kayaking hire right on the lakes edge. The location of the hot springs within walking distance to camp sight. Loved the rabbits and ducks that were around the campsite and greeted us in the morning. Appreciated very much our upgrade.

This is probably my best stay ever in Tekapo, comparing to my previous stay in hotels/motels.
Location - very close to town centre
Kitchen - great kitchen with gas stoves and a big oven
Dining room & lounge - open design with a large dining table
Rooms - very comfortable
* Balcony - this is the highlight of this property. Instead of heading to the lake side, we could easily turn off the lights and sit comfortably on the couch on the balcony to enjoy the night and stargazing.
The location of the cottage was great, close to the town centre and the lake. Friendly, helpful manager. The cottage is basic and a bit dated, but it's one of the cheaper options in Lake Tekapo and has everyting you need.
I thought the motel units we stayed in were pretty expensive for what they were although they were very clean and all we needed, but the backpackers was excellent value. Spotless and great amenities.
