Well this was a surprise. Don’t be put off by the exterior as it is a work in progress. The inside is comfortable and clean. Not 5 star but remember the location. Great stop for exploring Arthurs Pass and all the walks in the area. Vicki and Gerard were fantastic hosts during our stay. Very knowledgeable on the area with some good advice. Highly recommend Rata for a stay in this location.

Quite a good experience. Rather well equipped albeit a little ‘oldish’ but sufficient and cosy. Noisy level is acceptable and location is good.

I really like the instructions that the host gave us before our stay. So nothing was unexpected. We also liked the place because it has a good vibe and felt quite cozy.. the batch itself was quite old fashioned but that part we liked also. It was a good rest for one night! You could say that it is not the most convenient place to stay, but the atmosphere was really good. Also the place felt clean

The kitchen and common area was very nice, and the glow worms were very cool to see! The little cottage was cute. Easy check in and check out process.

Kristine was an amazing host. Very friendly and accommodating. Her apartment is very comfortable, home from home - with everything you need.
She also gave us some top tips on where to visit for the rest of our trip. Thank you!

We stayed one night going from West Coast to East. Absolutely stunning drive. There aren't many places to stay on that route and I feel we picked a good option with this place. Tash was very welcoming showing us around and suggesting a walk locally.
There is a large kitchen dining room with plenty of crockery and space in the fridge. There is a very limited little shop opposite with a cafe. Best to pick things up before you get there.
The room and bathroom were nicely decorated and cosy. It is on the road and some rooms are on that side. We had one but the road is so quiet, especially in the evening, it didn't bother us.
We were lucky to have a clear night sky so drove away from the village and had an amazing view of the milkyway. If you didn't want to do that the view from the village was pretty good too!
The walk was to a waterfall. There is quite a bit or up and down steps so not good for those with mobility issues.
Iconic historical building in an iconic location. The rooms are furnished period appropriate, the restaurant contains a collection of historical curios. The couple running it is very friendly and approachable. The food is hearty kiwi home style cooking.

Very warm welcome from owner.
Very warm welcome from owner. A roaring fire, owner who made us dinner. The room was fab, a bed to die for. Clean ensuite bathroom with a sweet shower. Our own private lounge with massage chair and large screen TV. Tea and coffee provided.
A wonderful place to stay.

Great for Railfans.
Great for Railfans. Trains can be heard close by in the night. Could hear falling water and night birds. Guests have a separate lounge for tea and coffee making. There are a lot of antique and old world features and displays here. All in all, a comfortable place to stay, considering it is in the middle of nowhere. Great Hikes can be had as well.

The hotel is a wonderland of eclectic antiques and collectables. The room #9 was one of the few with an ensuite and well worth the money. The bed was huge and very comfortable and the room was furnished beautifully with antiques - it was fascinating to see the 19th C porcelain in the bathroom. A lovely stay overall and so easy to drive up the range to do the Arthur’s Pass walks.
