It's cheap.
But the hotel is really old and run down despite looking clean. There is water damage and neglect. I was worried when I smelt reception. The kind staff member showed me to our family room and I had an allergic reaction to the mould in the room almost straight away. I have a diagnosed mould allergy. Not dust. Not cleaning products . Mould. The bathroom had buckling walls and the bedroom had swollen areas with water damage. . I had to leave immediately. I was sick for 24 hrs with respiratory issues after ventolin and antihistamines. Had to find new accom. I was able to cancel booking.
I stayed at Lakeview unit. Yes it was double $ . But it really was worth it .
Please beware there are major health issues @fiordland.

Was a lovely and picturesque town. We had beautiful weather while there, so we walked around the township and found all the people friendly and welcoming. The lake was so beautiful and just sat around admiring the view. Would visit again and stay longer

A great place to stay if you are visiting Milford Sound.
A great place to stay if you are visiting Milford Sound. Great restsurants and pubs too. Two to three nights will do though. So be sure to pack your activities in.
we had dinner at Thai Anau one night and the Fat Duck the next. Both meals were great.
Toured with Luxe Tours which we highly recommend also. Milford Sound and around. sensational scenery

Loved all we did in te anau.
Loved all we did in te anau. The glowworm caves are awesome. The doubtful sound trip with Real NZ was great and worth every cent. Milford sound was great and not as nature driven as the Doubtful sound trip which takes in manapouri hydro , wilmont pass bus trip and out to tasman sea seeing the seal colonies was terrific.

We stayed for two nights and went on the Doubtful Sound bus-boat-bus-boat trip. We cannot recommend this trip more, it was absolutely fantastic! If you are into photography, take the early departure (6.45am) option to get the best light.

Beautiful little town with lots of good dining spots.
Beautiful little town with lots of good dining spots.
2 hours drive from Milford and such a beautiful drive into the mountains.
The Kepler track trail head is very close to town and definitely worth doing. We just did an hour in and then back and it’s just a stunning easy walk.
Keen to do the whole thing next time.
The lake and view of the mountains is stunning. Go grab a couple of G & Ts and sit on the beach in the late afternoon. Magical
We had great meals at The Fat Duck and also Ditto

Te Anau was the perfect spot to stay.
Te Anau was the perfect spot to stay. A quiet town on the lake was great for long walks. The gateway to the Doubtful Sound and Milford Sound. Staying here is a better option than taking these tours from Queenstown. You will spend less time in the bus!
Strongly advise to make dinner reservations at least one day ahead so you will not be disappointed. There are a lot of places to eat but the town fills up quickly in the early evening when all the tours come back into town. Some places are not open every day which puts more pressure on the places that are open. We found that there were staffing issues in the places we ate at.

Staff were great upon arrival. The motel is on a road of hotels and motels and is probably the furthest of those from the centre of Te Anau but still well within walking distance. The accommodation felt pretty no frills but was clean and pleasant - would definitely stay here again if I was in the area
This is a comfortable motel just one block back from the lakeshore in Te Anau. It has a settee and a table and chairs as well as a good bed. The kitchenette was adequate with a big old cooker and a microwave and enough crockery and cutlery. It's a well maintained property that I'd recommend.
The location was great, being just a few minutes to walk into town.
It is also opposite Lake Te Anau, which has a lovely walk along the lakefront.
The hotel is spacious and our room was a good size with a lovely view of the lake.
All the staff we met, were very friendly and helpful.
The room was really nice, very clean and comfortable. Reception lady was very pleasant. The Anchorage Motel was one street back from Lake Te Anau and a short walk to The Te Anau Club where we had a lovely tea.
