Basic, newish, no-frills accommodation, close to TDP bus terminal. Reasonable cost. Friendly front-end staff. Hotel located in a strip mall on the busy and noisy Pan-American highway, but set back enough that the room was quiet. Separate Chinese Restaurant on main floor also good. Good coffee shop 75 metres away. It’s not the Four Seasons hotel but fine for an overnight stay.
Hotel Galeria features a garden, terrace, a restaurant and bar in Santiago.

The hotel is right on Ruta 1 adjacent to the Santiago Mall. The hotel restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food is very good. The entire staff is very friendly and personable.

Very nice and clean hotel in a not-so interesting town. But if you need to be in Santiago, this is a great choice. Clean room, daily breakfast and lovely pool.

One huge plus of this location is it's easy to find. This is especially important in a country that is allergic to signs. It's right on the Carretera Panamericana and well marked. If you make a mental note of the property from its photo you should locate it. I had been distracted by a police roadblock right before the property so missed it, but remembered that it is about 7 kms outside Santiago, so backtracking led me right to it.
One problem I had was arriving later than expected, but well before the property's closing hours, I was not able to gain access to the gate to enter the office area. A bell would be useful to alert hotel staff someone is there. After a bit of a dance, I was able to get in and the owner, Melvin, later appeared and all was well. He even offered me a room more suitable to my needs, which was appreciated. Everyone was very helpful and friendly, which was appreciated.
The room was simple, but satisfactory. There is a little coffee bar out in the public area which I discovered when leaving the next morning. It would have been nice to know about it the night before, but it is there.

The owner was very flexible. Because of bad traffic in Panama City, I only made it at 11 pm to the hotel. Their online payment system did not work so he gave me the access code even without payment. He came in the morning with changes for my $100 bill and even gave me a ride to the bus station. The room was great value for the price. A/C is working which is important because it is hot.

A recently renovated apartment, Salamanca Loft offers accommodations in Los Güichiches. This property offers access to a terrace, free private parking, and free Wifi.
Santiago is NOT a vacation spot. I had to be there for work and there was absolutely nothing to do outside of my hotel. It was all strip malls and fast food chains and 2-3 hours to the closest beach. That said, the people are very kind and happy, but not much to see or do there.

Plenty to do for everyone's taste: shopping mall (huge one)...
Plenty to do for everyone's taste: shopping mall (huge one) a stone's throw from the hotel. A short drive from the hotel you have the city center. There are huge possibilities for hiking in nature and visiting national parks. The only drawback is that there is traffic all day long anywhere you go but it is too hot to cycle or walk!
