We booked an over water bungalow which is one of the best things about the place. The balcony overlooking the sea was the best thing about the room, also being able to swim in the sea from the side of the bungalow.
It was also an easy 12/15 mins walk into Vaitape for boat trips from the wharf and with shops, an ATM and supermarkets on the way. The pool was also great and the restaurant next door was very handy; we had great breakfasts there and also dinner.
Located on Motu Piti Aau and featuring an exclusive private beach, this 5-star resort and day spa offers private villas situated over the water.

Our apartment had air conditioning in the bedroom, which was very welcome and a comfortable mattress and plenty of plugs to charge phones and laptops. We were right on the lagoon frontage, so despite the property being located off the main busy road, the outlook was very nice and it was quiet to sleep at night. There was a jetty to jump off into the lagoon (very deep in front and clear - great swimming). The apartment was brightly painted with stencilled friezes, and there was a handy washing line, and a great outdoor shower for use after the lagoon swims! Our host picked us up, and dropped us off to the boat transfer for the airport. She also recommended and booked us on a snorkelling tour, which we thoroughly enjoyed. A supermarket was 5 minutes walk away, as were some great food trucks, and we were also handy to the St James restaurant and speciality shops.
Another bonus was that we were directly opposite a cycle hire place, which offered very good value for money for standard bicycles. The main centre of Vaitape was a further five minute walk away so this is a very handy spot.
Located in Bora Bora, within 5.4 km of Mount Otemanu, Villa Kahaia Bora Bora offers accommodation with air conditioning. This property offers access to a terrace, free private parking and free WiFi.

Very nice accommodation on the island. Easily accessible and has a good location close to Matira beach.
Francesca was so helpful and sweet to us, she helped us arrange the activities during our stay and helped us rent a scooter. Thank you so much! We will return!

Biking around the island was the right approach. Really no need for a rental car.
We really liked eating at the Roulottes (food trucks), excellent seafood (the poisson cru is to die for!). Note that portions are large - we learned after the first time and starting sharing one portion; more than enough food for 2-3 people.
We also found getting meals from the supermarket was a good way to go. They have a number of cold meals prepared (including excellent sashimi).
Can recommend doing at least one lagoon tour. Snorkling is some of the best we have ever done.

Bora Bora itself is a bit of a dive.
Bora Bora itself is a bit of a dive. Their saving grace is that the water is amazing on a good day. Not much to see or do on the land. Infrastructure is really poor. The boat ride to and from the airport is a highlight. Clearly the government is not supporting this area's infrastructure which will in turn support the locals in providing for tourism and for themselves. Roading and facilities are run down and in poor condition. All the action is on the water. Vaitape is the main village and even that is not much. Just really expensive/overpriced tourist shops. The little market inside at the boat terminal is quite good but only take cash, and the Tahitian busking band playing outside the market is great. It was absolutely pouring with rain the day we arrived, so we lost a whole day due to bad weather. Actually, it wasn't even that warm when it did fine up. We rescheduled the back end of our holiday to stay in Bora Bora an extra day to hopefully get some good weather and do something on the water.

Bora Bora is beautiful!
Bora Bora is beautiful! It works best for those who are into serious water activities, romantic getaways or just relaxation. It’s more remote and void of hustle and bustle. Peaceful, quiet and beautiful, that’s it. Great food. It doesn’t need to be expensive if you plan well.

Bora Bora is rightly considered one of the most beautiful places in the world, it is stunning! I though that it might be a bit touristy and gimmicky, but it was not the case, it felt very authentic when out and about. One thing to be prepared for is that it is quite busy, especially around the the main town area Vaitape, which is unseal in the Islands, but overall a beautiful spot with beautiful people and beautiful culture.

Highly recommend Bora Bora, especially, the "Bora Bora by Land and Sea: 4WD Safari and Snorkle tour - best thing we did (swim with sting rays, friendly black tipped sharks and beautiful fish of the corals. 4WD took us around the whole island including accessing very steep 4x4 roads to get us to a high vantage point/look out). Download the 'Get Your Guide' for more tours, pricing and availability. Great location. Polynesian people as a whole are very friendly and welcoming. Hope to return one day.

I really enjoyed my vacation in Bora Bora and looking forward to going back. The beaches are beautiful, there are a lot of good restaurants and the locals are very friendly.
Matira Beach is absolutely stunning! The crystal clear shallow waters make it perfect for snorkeling and other water activities and the marine 🐠 life is amazing 🤩
