Fabrice and Julia were EXCELLENT hosts. I was there as a solo female traveler and was very comfortable. I went in March (the off/rainy season in Rwanda) so I was the only one in the hotel. The food and the service were outstanding. I had chicken mbarre and it was fresh and incredibly flavorful. They even arranged for breakfast at 6am so I could go to Volcanoes National Park, just a short drive away. Rooms were clean and had outlets and mosquito nets. My bathroom was a wet bath and had shower gel available.

The food was very good, basic meals but very plentiful. A big plate of fresh fruit for breakfast along with eggs and bread. They made potatoes for me at my request. Served out on a table by the gorgeous view. It was wonderful.

This is a unique property. Each guest has their own cottage with a very large bedroom, bathroom, and front porch. The property has a beautiful garden in back and a fire pit seating area in front. The food was excellent. And the location was ideal, close to Volcanoes National Park.

The breakfast was good and the hired staff very nice and helpful. I had a 2-story unit with the upstairs bedroom (with mosquito netting) and a bathroom that was ok.

This is the best hotel in all of Rwanda. If you want luxury for the price of a budget hotel, this is the place to be. Its hospitality is par excellence, from the entrance where Coco the receptionist greets you warmly and helps you with every problem you have, to the kitchen staff who is extra attentive.
The rooms, aren’t really rooms but large cottages with plenty of outdoor space. I was very comfortable as a single person staying in the largest room I have had so far in all my stays in the country. I would always stay here if I come to Musanze, no matter what the budget - this is best value for money one can have with added warmth and comfort.
The service is par excellence. I had to trek in the morning at 7, so the hotel staff prepared breakfast - crepes, toast, coffee for me at 6am and kept it ready on a table decorated with flowers. The entire staff - reception, cleaning, restaurant go out out of their way to be hospitable, it seems like second nature to them. I felt cherished and valued as a customer

Absolutely magical stay! This lodge near Volcanoes National Park is a true hidden gem and one of the best experiences I’ve had while traveling. The location is unbeatable—just a short 15-minute drive to the gorilla trekking meeting point, making it incredibly convenient. You’re completely immersed in nature, surrounded by lush greenery and breathtaking volcano views that make every moment feel surreal.
The lodge itself is done with impeccable taste and so much attention to detail—from the beautifully curated plants and decorations to the cozy, inviting atmosphere. I was welcomed with a lovely souvenir gift in my room, which was such a thoughtful touch. The room was stocked with everything I could possibly need: tea, coffee, plush bathrobes, slippers… it felt like home, but better. At night, the staff even left a hot water bottle in the bed—such a comforting detail after a day of adventure.
The food? Incredible. Breakfast offered a wide variety of delicious options, and dinner was just perfect every night. The common area with the fireplace became a nightly ritual—great music, warm fire, interesting conversations, and a cozy ambiance that made it hard to leave.
Joachim, the host, is an absolute star. Friendly, responsive, and so informative—he was always ready to help with tips, transport arrangements, or anything else we needed, always at a fair price. His warmth and hospitality really stood out.
Oh, and let’s not forget the little things: the team cleaned my muddy shoes and gaiters after trekking (lifesaver!), and the lodge is also home to an adorable family of cats and a sweet dog who made my stay even more special. I couldn’t stop petting them!
This place is paradise. Peaceful, welcoming, beautifully run, and surrounded by the beauty of Rwanda. I’m already dreaming of coming back. Highly, highly recommended

Sambora Kinigi is a gem.
We were welcomed to the Sambora Lodge by an unbelievably warm and helpful staff who attended to our every need. Our cottage was perfect, with a roaring fire to welcome us after a delicious meal prepared by a talented chef who uses local, fresh ingredients to make wholesome gourmet meals accompanied by a selection of fine wines.
The planned activities from which to choose are world class – top of the list is Gorilla trekking, which was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We had the opportunity to canoe on pristine lakes, visit community groups working with artisans and really experience life in Rwanda’s northern region. The Diane Fossey Campus is literally right around the corner and well worth the visit.
We were made to feel at home in this top-notch facility, with our every need catered to – massages in room, fresh local flowers from the luscious gardens, and the best turn-down service ever. But truly the Sambora family made the stay extra special for us.
