Just returned from an amazing stay at a hotel in Pongwe Bay, Zanzibar, and I can’t stop thinking about the view! The room had a breathtaking sea view—waking up to that turquoise water every morning was unreal. The pool was a highlight too—clean, beautifully designed, and perfect for lounging with a cocktail. The beach was quiet and peaceful, almost like a private paradise. Staff were super friendly and always ready to help with a smile. The food was fresh and delicious, especially the seafood. If you’re looking for a relaxing, picturesque escape, this place is a gem. Would definitely go back!

We stayed for four very enjoyable nights at Pongwe Beach Hotel. It is a small tranquil hotel right on the white sandy beach of the turquoise Indian Ocean. It really is a slice of paradise.
Our thatched African styled semi-detached accommodation was as close to the beach as you could get with a spectacular view of the ocean from the sunbeds resting on the terrace. Our room was clean and spacious. It had good quiet air conditioning and a ceiling fan. There was also a mosquito net over the four poster large firm but comfortable double bed. There were also four firm but comfortable pillows. There was a good hot shower in the large shower area which keeps the bathroom floor dry. There were complimentary toiletries and a large bottle of water which is replenished daily.
The staff are very friendly and attentive. In fact we thought it was too much so. We had a problem with the latch on our door which was replaced soon after I mentioned it to reception.
The swimming pool again by the beach is sparkling clean warm and inviting. There seemed to be enough sunbeds by the pool for the number of guests during our stay but there were not enough parasols and the few in the shade disappeared very quickly.
The breakfast is good with a reasonable variety of choices. The freshly cooked part of breakfast is as close as you will get to a full English breakfast in Zanzibar. Lunch and dinner are available in the restaurant. There is a limited choice from the à la carte menu which changes daily. The food is of an excellent quality although by African standards it is extremely expensive and the portions are small. When we arrived on Friday night it was 'buffet night' but as my wife does not like buffets we could choose from the lunchtime menu. There is complimentary tea and coffee with biscuits and cake available all day from the restaurant and at four o'clock a waiter comes round the pool and beach with an afternoon snack of freshly cut fruit.

I stayed at few hotels in Zanzibar and here it is different - original bush has been saved , added flowers and endemic plants.African style architecture blended inside the garden , tastefully decorated rooms and some villas, each has different theme. I like the local arts around.Pool on the secluded beach , so wonderfully relaxing …Life slows down🌴☀️The cuisine is absolutely delicious. I enjoyed Zanzibar traditional music band

From the moment we arrived, we felt truly special – we were welcomed by the sweetest, always-smiling staff, who remained incredibly helpful throughout our stay, yet never intrusive.
The hotel is located in a peaceful, intimate area – a true oasis of calm and relaxation. It’s the perfect choice for anyone seeking a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The rooms were spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated.
The food? A true delight! Fresh seafood, local delicacies, and excellent coffee – all prepared with great care and attention to detail.
This place has a soul. We will definitely return – for the atmosphere, the tranquility, the beauty, and the wonderful people who made this stay unforgettable.

You need to take into consideration the feelings of your visitors....we do not like being targeted by people pestering us to buy from them every time we go to the beach. It really is a negative factor of visiting your wonderful island paradise....it spoiled it for us. Also this happened to us on other beaches in Zanzibar so not just a Pongwe problem....its endemic to Zanzibar.

Pongwe is an isolated beach, at low tide the sea is very far away and, even at high tide, it is very shallow - you cannot swim. Kiwengwa beach, next door (10 minutes by car) is much better, more lively, with many shops and good hotels.

This place has a great no shoes policy and although there is a new fancy pants hotel not far away pongwe Bay resort is the real deal....authentic rooms and gorgeous thatched bungalows with all the mod cons which let you know you are in exotic zanzibar (not like the 'swish but you could be anywhere new places). Gardens are beautiful and all the staff are simply delightful
The Island is a very unique place. Being a boutique hotel, since the beginning we were treated very well by the staff. Since it was our honeymoon we got a upgrade on our room to the best suite on the island and it was perfect. The restaurant there was very good and very well served. Staff was perfect.
Firstly RIP Captain Ali . The main reason I came back so often . Great guy. I hope the hotel treats his legacy and Captain MK well as on future trips I’ll look forward to seeing them . The beach and staff are great .
The place is amazing. We needed a place to relax and this hotel was just such a place. Rooms fully equipped. Nothing is missing. We will definitely return to this hotel.
