Enjoyed the historical society for the first time, (after over a dozen vistits to LaPorte) You have a gem there!
Love the drive up 35 into town. Wish you had a prerecorded pod cast to listen to as we drive past those historic homes.
Wow on your court house!
We stay often at the Blue Heron, the walking path that goes by it is fantastic. LOVE the musical stops on either side!

Look for itself was okay very disappointed with the Aries Resort because it was so not a resort it was a construction site you got chemical burns from the pool nothing was what it seemed no breakfast no bar no heat terrible terrible Hotel but look for was okay again please don't go to the Aries Resort not a good place they really should not be operating right now my daughter almost fell down the Elevator Shaft that had no caution signs around it and got chemical burns from their pool and when brought to their attention they didn't have nothing to say I had a waterfall in my room that damaged my stuff I was told I would get a refund from the hotel but of course that never happened I'm just forewarning anybody before they stay at the Aries Resort not a resort construction site.

Main attractiion was Pine Lake.
Main attractiion was Pine Lake.
The main entrance road into the city is lined with large trees and well-maintained houses from the early 1900's.
Conveniently located a short drive from Lake Michigan; which has a beauty all it's own.
The beach is clean and the fresh water of this member of the Great Lakes
is clear and cool; very refreshing.
LaPorte is around an hour drive from Downtown Chicago.

LaPorte is French for "The Door", and this area is the doorway that leads from rural / agricultural Indiana to industrial Indiana. The town of LaPorte has two large inland lakes for boating, fishing and swimming, and is just south of the Michigan town of New Buffalo, which has public access to Lake Michigan's beachfront. Just west of LaPorte is Michigan City, which hosts the Blue Chip casino, the Friendship Botanical Garden and several art galleries and theaters. The South Shore line also has a very well trafficked station on Carroll Street in Michigan City; the train's Van Buren Street station lies directly across from the Museum of Art, and the Millennium Station terminus is in the Loop. A quick trip to Chicago while vacationing in LaPorte isn't out of the question. The big tip re: the South Shore is that the ticket agent only accepts cash, and the ticket kiosks do NOT read chip cards. So be prepared to pay cash, or pay for tickets ahead using their app.
LaPorte itself has a number of restaurants along US35 west, and most of these restaurants offer delivery via the Doordash app. I ordered a meal from Christo's Family Restaurant after trekking the trails and enjoying a dip in Lake Michigan while visiting Indiana Dunes state park. I was too tired to go out, and hungry as a bear. The meal was delivered in 20 minutes, the portions were very generous and nicely prepared. The reuben sandwich and potato wedge side were sufficient for my meal; I saved the soup and biscuits for the next day.
As far as getting around the town and to other locations, it is fairly easy driving. There are three major highways that provide access: the Indiana Toll Road (I80-US94), US 20 and US35. In town, there is a bike path along US35 for cyclists.

I had never been to that area.
I had never been to that area. We enjoyed that we could get to Michigan in a short time and to Notre Dame. THAT I can honestly say was my favorite. My husband is a big fan of the Fighting Irish so being that close to the campus was great.

It was the perfect location for our getaway to New Buffalo.
It was the perfect location for our getaway to New Buffalo. Super close to the area but just far enough away that it wasn’t over-crowded like the in town hotels. Literally right down the street from everywhere we were going. Room was clean and room temp was great & water was hot hot & cold cold with good water pressure in the shower. Nice large screen tv. You could hear noise from outside/other rooms but it didn’t bother us. Breakfast was pretty non-existent but with Covid it is what it is. Super reasonable rate compared to others in the area & a very nice hotel. We will definitely stay here again.

This is very homey and comfortable hotel I have stayed there several times on trips across the states. It is on the lake which is lovely, I have a room with a private balcony Room has large hot tub and is very large and roomy Has very conformable homelike decor Restaurant is great with nice menu well prepared food at reasonable cost I believe they made several renovations in e recent year which have helped Nice breakfast also Not fancy hotel but very welcoming Worth the 10 minute drive off the freeway.,
Hotel was beautiful. We had a king room with a lake view balcony and hot tub. It was huge. All of the front desk ladies were phenomenal no matter what time of day or night. The breakfast was solid, but the actual restaurant itself was amazing. One of the best steaks I've had in a long time and my wife loved her Fruits of the Sea as well. Will definitely be back.
I had booked a room with a balcony and did not get that. I was all the way at the back of the hotel. There was not ice machine on my floor it had been torn out and a mess left in that area. I had passed a room that had some ceiling tile that had fallen and just left there on the floor. My room was very nice and updated though not what I asked for.
I enjoyed my stay at the hotel primarily because it offered an affordable option for a short duration. The availability of free parking was a definite plus, and I found the accommodations to be comfortable.
The staff was excellent. The front of the hotel was under construction but the staff helped us out and made it easy to understand where to go. The room was clean and quiet. Super big and clean
