Winslow was the only affordable place in Northern Arizona...
Winslow was the only affordable place in Northern Arizona because of the crush of Grand Canyon visitors and the over-pricing of accommodations in the area. As such a site of overflow housing, it's OK. Not a destination. Amtrak is my favorite way to travel and the luxury of getting off the train, and then sleeping at La Posada makes my recovery from a long adventure much more pleasing. Good food, good beer, good staff, and good location. The hotel is fabulous, lovely grounds, lovely rooms, lovely restaurant/bar area and very close the the focal point of Winslow (think Eagles songs). The history of the hotel was fascinating, the art exhibition in the museum is highly recommended and we were served in the bar by the coolest dude in the world.
