We had no idea what a private reserve safari experience would be like. This experience was exceptional. I expected it to be busy and commercial, but it was intimate and friendly and personal. Just 24 guests who quickly became friends round the fire pit after every exhilarating 3 hour safari. Saw lots of animals inc big 5, ate like royalty, all inclusive, fabulous staff and knowledgeable lovely guide in Greg. Great adventure sleeping in luxury tent! Just a totally wonderful experience we will never forget. Excellent value for money.

This was an amazing experience. We went on 2 games drives a day and each time we saw new scenes! Not only the big 5 but all the other animals going about their business (buck, jackals, meerkats, zebras). Our safari guide (Abby) was very knowledgeable and also very entertaining.
The room was spacious, the lodge was cosy and the staff were all extremely friendly and helpful.

Everything about this whole experience was phenomenal. We had no expectations but what we saw and did was beyond our comprehension. We are very grateful to have the opportunity that Quartermaine’s provides.
We got 4 game drives, unexpectedly 3 of these was just us with the guides Liam and David as the other 4 guests were out on walking trail. These guides are extremely knowledgeable, great people and sense of humour. Went out of their way to make it all memorable.
Our game drives were fantastic, with 2 very close encounters with the Elephant Herd and later Lion immediately beside or around us. Saw all the other animals at close range too. The animals and scenery were unforgettable, we appreciated stopping at the middens of early human camps. Full explanations of all the animals and plants
When we had a bit of rain and wind, we got rain ponchos, blankets, even hot water bottles.
The camp itself was very 1920s authentic with twists of luxury. The Hot tubs under South Afrikan skies - sensational. Loved all the food cooked on the fires, the home made bread & food, delicious. Hot and cold drinks and snacks are available at all times, even on drives with amazing views.
The Lions roaring at night and the Elephant outside our tent at night added extra thrill, always felt safe though.
We don’t have the words to describe the experience or to say thank you enough. I understand now why people keep returning - we also hope too. Not enough room for all the great photos. THANK YOU 🙏 from 2 very grateful New Zealanders x

You will be sure to have a magnificent stay here.
Extremely comfortable and very private. Very nice staff and, especially, a highly skilled game driver named Lubela who managed to make every game drive better than the previous. But also a very ”family atmosphere” in the lodge. All meals and drinks are included with nice food served every day.
Induli lodge was opened in 2024 and is nicely renovated/decorated with many attention to details. Matt, the owner was very attentive and fulfilled your requests for any specific liquor etc. that you felt was missing.

Most of the lodges in Game Reserves are very high standard. Bukela Lodge did not disappoint. From welcoming us to the accomodation, staff, food and organisation of Safaris we felt we booked the right lodge. The staff was outstanding, so nice and very professional. Our house (number 1) had a nice little terrace with view of the water hole and we could see some antilopes very close. The best part of our stay were of course the game drives with our ranger Evans. He is so knowledgeable and passionate. Except for a leopard, we saw all animals we wanted, the whole experience was exceptional. If you cannot go to one of the big National Parks, I can definitely recommend Amakhala Game Reserve.

Beautiful small lodge located in amazing private reserve! The rooms were stunning and we could see giraffes and warthogs from our terrace!
The staff was super nice and attentive and always made sure we had everything we needed!
The food was delicious and they catered for gluten free requirements very well. The drives were also great!
Our guide Des was extremely knowledgeable and fun and we saw all the big fives, incredible scenery and learned about so much about all the animals!
Overall this is a great reserve, we had a very special time and would highly recommend!
The staff at Amakhala were very friendly and helpful.
The staff at Amakhala were very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. the room was large and when you came back after the second safari they had turned the lights on. folded down the beds and put the heating on. That is a really great touch from the staff.
The Park Rangers were very good. We had Jessie and he was very informative and had a great sense of humour. He really did his best to find the animals we all wanted to see and made it a special experience.

Amakhala Game Reserve is a haven for wild animals and a brilliant place for a safari. Many of the animals used to roam the land 100 years ago before the land was used for farming. In the early 2000's the land was returned to its natural habitat and the animals reintroduced, with the aim of conservation and breeding of endangered species.
As it is in a malaria-free area, it is the perfect location for a safari for people who get bitten by mozzies!
There were only a few jeeps out on drives at any time, so you rarely come across other people. There are several lodges in the reserve to choose as your base (we stayed at Safari Lodge, which was brilliant).

The whole experience was amazing. Difficult to put into words. Spectacular views from the lodge, very knowledgeable and professional rangers, great food, extremely friendly atmosphere, very thoughtful touches (like running a bubble bath on return from game drive), wonderful decor.

Beautiful place, well managed where the staff have massive respect for the animals and care for them, from a respectful distance. Not too many people out on the drives at once which is good as some reserves can get quite crowded - shows good management. Saw all the animals we could have hoped for and got to witness some amazing things, from a close but safe distance. Amazing. Relatively easy to get to too. It is a dirt road leading up to the lodge but easy to navigate even in a very small car which is what we had. Great experience.

A beautiful and well managed reserve.
A beautiful and well managed reserve. The landscape and different biomes are interesting to see and the wildlife are abundant. It is not crowded and made us like we where to only people there. Its clear to see that are leaders in conservation management and community engagement.

The entire Amakhala experience was magical.
The entire Amakhala experience was magical. Faultless from start to finish.
I would suggest that Booking.com inform clients that lunch on the day of arrival is included. Also inform of the length of the drives…4 hrs and 3 hours.
Water and cosy ponchos are provided.
The attention to detail on this trip was excellent.
The food and ambiance were top drawer.
Although you can never tell which animals you’ll see, we saw a large number, including a close up lion, on our two drives and 1 night stay.
