Grietjie Nature Reserve – great hotels and places to stay

Located within the Greater Kruger National Park, Lions Place is located in Grietjie Private Nature Reserve.

Lions Place is in the middle of a game preserve, so it is remote, but that is essential to its charm. You are in the middle of the habitat of African wildlife. Nevertheless, JB has managed to create a really high-end lodge. The building is lovely, the rooms are very comfortable, and the meals are exceptional. We went on four safaris and they were magical.

Located in the Balule Nature Reserve, Muweti Bush Lodge offers the opportunity for wildlife encounters at its waterhole, where elephants and other game come to drink.

Our stay at Muweti Bush Lodge was truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, we felt completely at home. Hardus, one of the staff members, was incredible—so kind and thoughtful throughout our stay. He even made us the most amazing ostrich stir fry, which ended up being one of our favorite meals of our entire South Africa trip! The lodge itself is even more beautiful than the photos online. They honestly don’t do it justice. Everything was spotless, and the tented rooms were super secure and well-insulated, making us feel safe and comfortable while still feeling close to nature. The game drives were beyond anything we expected. We saw so much incredible wildlife up close, and every drive felt like a new adventure. Our most memorable moment was watching a pride of lions try to hunt a baby elephant! If you're looking for a perfect mix of comfort, adventure, and genuine hospitality, Muweti Bush Lodge is the place to be. We can’t wait to come back!

Offering a garden, iMbamuweti Cottage provides accommodations in Grietjie Nature Reserve. This property offers a private pool, free Wifi, and free private parking. Guests can use a terrace.

The cottaqe is very cute, and was as described. The owner and caretaker / guide were terrific. The game drives were a lot of fun. It was a fully immersive experience for us, Elephants everywhere, herds walking around the cottage, Giraffe's stopped by, lots of Impalas, we didn't see the Lions strolling around the cottage but did see them while driving in and out of the reserve. I'd highly recommend!

With garden views, MILIMA Big 5 Safari Lodge is located in Hoedspruit and has a restaurant, a shared lounge, bar, garden, year-round outdoor pool and terrace.

It was pure understated elegance and a wonderful experience. The food and the staff were amazing. Every day was different: outdoor braai, elegant dinner, casual lunch .. etc. We tried Kudu and Ostrich and local dishes like Bobooti. It was lovely. Pool is lovely and overlooking a waterhole where elephants would always gather. Safari drives weee excellent. We saw hippo and buffalo and lions and elephants and giraffes and water hog and rhino and zebra and kudu and impala and baboon and crocodile … only thing we didn’t spot was the leopard. Will definitely come again. Staff were incredible too.

Bundox River Lodge is a recently renovated luxury tent in Hoedspruit where guests can make the most of its pool with a view, terrace, and bar. With river views, this accommodation provides a balcony.

The location is beautiful and secluded, with views on the Olifantsriver (even from your shower) and a nice variety of wildlife in the reserve. Despite only staying for two nights, we saw loads of wildlife including; lions, leopard, elephants, giraffes, and even crocs from the deck at the lodge. Also, it’s a relatively quiet area so you have the sightings to yourself, and rarely bump into other vehicles. To top it off, the staff is great, with every team member going above and beyond to make your stay as comfortable and memorable as possible. Definitely not the last time we visited this lovely lodge and team!

    its a big 5.

its a big 5. BUT because of so many private properties you can not game drive much of the reserve like other reserves and also within the reserve the owners of the lodges seem to not like each other that much. they gossip a lot about each other ( i did stay in different places in this reserve ) and i did not have this issue in other game reserves.

    Dear Lengau Lodge Team,

Dear Lengau Lodge Team, We would like to sincerely thank you for our three-day stay with you. Loek and Ilse warmly welcomed us upon our arrival and patiently explained everything to us. On the same day, we went on an afternoon safari with Loek, which was simply wonderful. On the way to the lodge, we even encountered a group of elephants. Already on the first day, we were able to admire impalas, elephants, and lions. The location of the lodge directly in the Great Kruger Park is simply phenomenal. In the evenings, we could hear the roar of the lions, and the soundscape was truly unique. The lodge itself was very clean and tastefully decorated. We particularly enjoyed the pool area, from which you have a direct view of the bush and can observe animals. This was a wonderful opportunity to experience nature and wildlife up close. Loek was an extremely friendly safari guide and had extensive knowledge. We also had the pleasure of booking the gin tasting, which we can definitely recommend. It was evident that Luug and Ilse were very committed to providing their guests with a pleasant stay. However, we would also like to honestly share our experience that we felt unable to express every wish, as we were afraid of asking for too much. In our opinion, the food was not always sufficient, and instead of a breakfast buffet, there was a pre-set breakfast menu. We would have liked to be treated more individually as guests and to have felt that our wishes were positively received. Nevertheless, we would like to emphasize that overall we were satisfied with our stay at Lengau Lodge and would gladly recommend it. The warmth and efforts of Loek and Ilse impressed us, and the location of the lodge in the Great Kruger Park is simply unbeatable. We are glad to have chosen this lodge. Thank you once again for your hospitality. Kind regards, Dimitri&Rabia

The chalet I had was very clean and comfortable. The food was good and well presented. I particularly appreciated the french press coffee and cheese selection at breakfast. The manager, Christina, went above and beyond to address any concern. I forgot my phone charger and she arranged to have an employee buy me a replacement.
