South Africa's premier coastal resort is very cosmopolitan, with a wide choice of good restaurants and beaches. There are amazing waterside restaurants, but beware: there are lots of steep steps to be negotiated.

The shops are all individual, which is nice, there is plenty to do, Bettys Bay is a short drive and you can see penguins in a natural habitat, price was reasonable if you wanted to walk along the boardwalk to see more penguins, only R40 each.
Certain times of year you can see Whales, they come here to have their babies. There are trips to see whales and dolphins. Or you can just relax at the numerous cafes, very pleasant town.

Even outside of whale season, Hermanus is a great place to walk, to dine, to visit wineries. The Wine Glass is a recommended dinner venue. We did eat on the Marina . . . you know . . . pizza and beer joints. Lemonicious was good.

Hermanus is a lovely town with stunning views, a great vibe and loads of bars and restaurants. It is quaint but well provided for in terms of amenities. We felt safe and everything is walking distance. We loved Ficks tidal pool. But it is the views that you return to every time!!!

Hermanus is a beautiful small town by the sea.
Hermanus is a beautiful small town by the sea. Beautiful cliff path and views, great restaurants and small shops. Leisurely atmosphere. Pretty safe (I was travelling solo). I greatly enjoyed it. Wish had more time to stay for a few days just to enjoy the beaches.

The hotel was very quiet comparing to other hotels in the area, with some beautiful antiques and old fashioned furniture and sea views from the front house where the breakfast is served. Breakfast is complimentary and you can order beforehand by writing on a note which they collect in the morning which is very nice. It is one of the few hotels that offers single rates for solo travellers which is amazing.
I love the Spanish design of this hotel and the convenient location. Good service and fairly priced. The rooms are spacious and we even got a complimentary bottle of wine on our return visit. The clothes and suitcase space between the bathroom and main room also works for me. This is my first choice of hotel in Hermanus.
We live in Franschhoek and enjoy visiting Hermanus, a friend had suggested Misty Waves and we where not disappointed, in fact we where given an upgrade of room with a sea view which was much appreciated.
Lovely staff and a very good place to stay.
