Offering barbecue facilities and mountain view, Paardefontein Karoo Stay is situated in Laingsburg, 10 km from The Marie Rawdon Museum and 21 km from Laingsburg Golf Club.

Had a beautiful star filled sky. Peaceful and perfectly quite. What an experience. Surrounded by beautiful blue-sky and perfect place to have a braai and sit around the fire.

Boasting garden views, Rooilande Guest Farm provides accommodation with an open-air bath and a patio, around 25 km from The Marie Rawdon Museum. A hot tub is available for guests.

We were gobsmacked with the views from our chalet looking over the mountains and distant mountains and the milkyway at night the stars were absolutely stunning. What a treat it was to lie in the hot tub just gazing at the stars. The accommodation was first class and loved the bath with hand shower. Leon was such a friendly man and very kind. Jessica the lovely staff couldn't do enough for us what a gem she was. We hire a quad bike and my hubby and I went for lovely trips on the dirt tracks even though we are in our young 70s it was just so much fun. We now want to go back with our 2 sons they will love it there. Thanks Leon for the best time we had in the Western Cape.

Lord Milner in Matjiesfontein is well worth a stop if only for lunch or afternoon tea, and a great overnight stop along the N1. Do not just drive past, drive in and enter a bygone age. Staff and hotel are great and it is an ideal journey break

Matjiesfontein is really 1 Street and a railway stop.

Matjiesfontein is really 1 Street and a railway stop. We stopped for an overnight stay on a road trip from Johannesburg. We walked around on our own and then went into a very old Lairds bar for a late afternoon drink. Staff incredibly friendly and helpful. For the price of the bed and breakfast, on the expensive side it was not good value for money. The dinner was expensive and very average, we had lamb shank, no wows. Dining room had mop strings on the legs of tables which to me is not acceptable. Perhaps staff need training. The breakfast was lovely. The room- there were 2 usable plugs in the room and I was unable to blow dry my hair using the mirror on the wall as the distance was to great. No attention to detail. Bathroom had nowhere to put anything even though there was space. We put toiletry bags on the floor. Very basic room for the nearly R2000.00 cost. The hotel needs a revamp. It's a do once in your lifetime place.

    Matjiesfontein is absolutely tiny.

Matjiesfontein is absolutely tiny. There are 3 small museums (1 was closed), a coffee shop, a tourist tat shop, the hotel bar and restaurant, other accommodation...and that is about it. The buildings are very quaint and it's lovely and quiet with lots of birdsong, but this is strictly a one-night stay on the way somewhere else to my mind.

Nice for a one night stop, or a lunch break.

Nice for a one night stop, or a lunch break. Charmingly preserved Victorian spa village, take a look around, drink in the traditional pub, stay in the old hotel. The museum however is just a pile of dusty old junk.

The room was pleasant and clean, very well laid out (...

The room was pleasant and clean, very well laid out (excellent layout), the lounges are somewhat worn and needs better furniture. Some of the staff is friendly, but they should be trained to assist guests with baggage; I'm 70 and they did not assist me in any way. You have to park outside in the street and carry your own baggage inside and up the stairs. It should not be difficult for them to provide secure parking on the hotel premises and a convenient way to have guests baggage delivered to the room.

Beautiful Gem of a village in the middle of nowhere.

Beautiful Gem of a village in the middle of nowhere. The main Hotel with 2 museums in 2 minutes walk made this a unique experience. The 10 minute "bus tour" around the town was great and the "conductor" had us in stitches and then went on to do a performance on the piano at the bar. Definitely a must visit. The dinner and breakfast at the restaurant were 1st class and the staff went out of their way to make Christmas eve a memorable one.
