I would hope this helps people avoid Costa Rica, third world country, third world service, third word food and prices double almost every first world country, the airport and hotels charge 10 dollars for a 50 cent bottle of waterGuest review bywayne - Review score10.0
We loved Samara.
We loved Samara. It's a small town of only about 3,000 permanent residents. We LOVED the beach. It was perfect. It was clean and safe and peaceful and there isn't anybody walking up and down trying to sell you anything. The town is small but friendly and lovely; plenty of restaurants to check out, live music to hear, ice cream treats, great Sushi in town, grocery store, cheese & sausage store, etc. We went to Limey's twice for the great food and live music:) We could live here; we didn't want to leave:)Guest review byFarrellUnited States - Review score6.0

I strongly recommend staying in the Hampton Inn Hotel near Liberia airport and less than 30 minutes from Coco. The town of Coco is not suited for walking as there are only a few run down sidewalks. Food is excellent although extraordinarily expensive. Weather was hot and sunny but beach was not particularly welcoming with a run down pathway filled with stoners. Water perfect warmth and sand silky, but poor ocean visibility near shore as the black sand was churned up by the waves. Had to walk a long way out to get to water above my knees. No lifeguard and would not leave any valuables unattended.Guest review byEric - Review score6.0

Nosara is apparently one of the most expensive places in Central America, more expensive than the rest of Costa Rica, and the vibe is a bit weird - lots of wealthy travelers, $9 drip coffee, middle-aged white people mostly and lots of second-home mansions. We went to yoga at a resort that was $600/night and that seemed like no big deal for most of the American clients. However once we got to know the locals, learned to eat at local "sodas" instead, and realized the beach break is fantastic for surfing and protected so there's no beach vendors or beach bars, we had a great time. It's not a backpackers town, but it is very safe.Guest review byJessicaUnited States - Review score10.0
It is a nice small area to stay. Not too touristy.
It is a nice small area to stay. Not too touristy. The beach was incredible. Attended a wedding at Cafe Marisco, ate at Ginger. It was fun, pricey. Wonderful whole red snapper at Roberto's. Meals and drink, atmosphere at our hotel, El Velero were great. Beach walking, enjoying the beautiful surroundings and taking a sunset catamaran tour we're the highlights.Guest review bycherylUnited States - Review score8.0
It’s a quiet and relaxing area to visit.
It’s a quiet and relaxing area to visit. It’s very hot and very sunny and there’s not much shade on the beach. Be prepared to go through the sunscreen. The beach is clean, the sand is soft and white and the ocean is a spectacularly blue. The surf can be quite rough and it can be difficult to swim, so use caution.Guest review byJen - Review score8.0

Potrero is a charming and walkable beach town with plenty of dining options. While the beach itself was decent, it wasn’t our favorite—the sand is darker and the water less clear. We preferred Playa Conchal for snorkeling and Playa Danta or Dantita for swimming. That said, we appreciated Potrero’s more local feel, with a strong Tico presence, unlike the more tourist-heavy vibe of Playa Flamingo and Las Catalinas. Potrero’s central location makes it a great base for exploring nearby beaches. We especially recommend Hemingway’s on the beach—it’s family-friendly with fun activities like bean bag toss and a slackline. Our waiter, Joseph, was outstanding—knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. Don’t miss the beautiful sunset views from there!Guest review byMelanieUnited States - Review score10.0

Playa Grande is gorgeous wide and long sandy beach, very natural. There are spots for beginner and advanced surfers and is suitable also for families with kids. There is only one bar or buffet on the beach, but a beach club and few hotel restaurant are near by.Guest review byMartinaSlovakia
