Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SerbiaThe A&O Wien Hauptbahnhoff staff exercise no control over who is inside the hostel and the rooms. They give you a token room key, but anyone can enter your room without by manually opening the door. The overall vibe is like sleeping on a train station (which is located nearby and found in the name of the hostel, so it is not hard to imagine). A&O Wien Hauptbahnhoff has a policy of making you - the guest - their own room maid. You make the beddings for yourself and then you go out, minding your own business. After 2 hours you return to your room and realize that someone else is sleeping in the bed you have made (the guest only made the correct assumption that it is the hotels' and not the guests' duty to make the beddings). You make the bedding for yourself again on a different bed. The washing process for their bed linen involves the usage of some really heavy duty chemicals that triggers breathing problems for individuals with lung issues. After 30 minutes of lying in their bed you start sneezing, your eyes go red from constant straining to sneeze and your throat fills up with mucus as your organism fights to wash away the chemicals. You complain to the reception, they say there's nothing they can do about it. You made a cash payment for two days of stay that could be easily returned but alas - this goes against the company policy. The reception staff are all very forthcoming and well intentioned but let this not deceive you - they ultimately just serve to provide a human face to a ruthless money-grubbing company that will go on about its business as long as there are tourists in Vienna.
The keys to individual room lockers have been lost over time so you have to keep your valuables in the safe at the reception during your sleep. This system is a bit strenuous for the reception staff but it works.

AustriaHaving chosen to stay in a dorm room, it can be difficult to find a quiet spot. I might consider this a lesson learned
Being located near the main train station offers breathtaking views of modern, streamlined architecture. There is a functional kitchen that can be used by guests after paying a deposit. Appliances (BOSCH washer and dryer) for doing laundry are available and can be reserved / controlled via WeWash app. Next to your pillow, you can find USB (2×) sockets and a nightlight, and there are clean quality sheets. The breakfast station (to pay) offers all I need to start my day and so much more: organic coffee, selection of teas, a pancake machine, vegan options, breads, and delicacies to grab

The location was good as it was close to the train station, but it was on a quiet side street.

United KingdomAccess to the guest kitchen was laughable. Only 2 keys available and the desk staff were not at all helpful if both keys were out and had not been returned. No Kettle, no toaster, only 2 spoons. I know they are trying to get everyone to buy their own food, but if you offer a kitchen, at least have a reasonable facilities.
Beds comfortable, room was warm, bit of a trek into the City, but was walkable.

AustraliaWhen I first walked into my dorm there was an immediate smell of something like cow. It smelt really bad and not clean at all. I had to make my bed myself which was difficult as at 6pm there was a man sleeping who keep groaning and pulling his pillow over his head when I turned the light on. I knew I couldn’t hang out in room so I went down to use kitchen only to discover they were charging a 50€ deposit to use it!! 50€!!! That’s almost double the amount I paid for the room. It’s ridiculous. I checked in at 6:30pm and by 8:30pm I checked out and bought a ticket on the 9:30pm night train to Zurich. Only benefit was being close to station so I could leave immediately. The hostel was also full of screaming school children and groups
Location close to train station if your just travelling through and they offered free luggage storage although I didn’t feel like my bags were very safe there

Czech RepublicThe room upon entry has an unpleasant smell coming from the bathroom and overly warm. The smell faded after opening a window for 10min.
The property has good amenities and houses many people who can meet in the large lobby where you can find a bar and a foosball along a pool table. The room was great value for the money.

AustriaAwful Customer Service – Very Disrespectful Staff The way guests are treated at this hotel is beyond unacceptable. One staff member at reception, Sophia from Germany, was incredibly rude, selfish, and unprofessional. She even said bad words to guests and acted arrogantly, as if she owned the hotel. Her attitude, with her nose in the air, made the experience even worse. It’s shocking that someone like this is allowed to work in customer service. On top of that, the hotel’s policies are extremely inconvenient. Why is check-in at 15:00 but check-out as early as 10:00 AM? Guests are left waiting for a long time to get into their rooms, and if you want an early check-in, you have to pay extra! Imagine coming for a short 1- or 2-day holiday and losing most of your time waiting to check in, all while dealing with rude staff. The whole experience was incredibly frustrating, and I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.
Terrible Experience avoid this Hotel I had an awful experience during my stay at this hotel. The check-in process was incredibly disorganized and frustrating. The staff were not only unhelpful but also rude and deal bad way with everybody , which made me feel unwelcome from the start. Their customer service was practically nonexistent ,if I could rate it below zero, I would. This was by far one of the worst experiences I've had with a hotel, and I would not recommend it to anyone.

LatviaThe neighbors in the room can be unpredictable—you need to keep that in mind. For example, in my case, one person in my room seemed sweaty and went to bed without showering, still wearing dirty socks that didn't smell pleasant. Why should I have to endure that? I understand it's not the fault of the hostel administration but rather the behavior of individuals. Another issue was that everyone in the room piled their clothes and shoes near their beds. It was awful. Instead of leaving their shoes near the door, they kept them by their beds. And shoes do smell! Of course, this is the fault of the people, but I think it’s worth considering how to encourage guests to store their shoes in designated areas instead of near the beds.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this hostel. I was impressed by the quality in every aspect: the rooms are well-renovated, everything is new and high-quality. The interior design is appealing, the beds are new, the mattresses are comfortable, and everything was clean. The bed linen and towels were in perfect condition, the rooms were well-ventilated, and the heating system was adjustable. The internet was fast. The location is excellent—very close to the Central Train Station.

VietnamThe public toilets in the ground floor had bad strong urine smell. If people doesn't move, the lights will automatically turn off. This is uncomfortable and inconvenient if you are using toilet and suddenly the light turns off and you stay in a very dark toilet and very difficult to see everything there.
The location is the best point of this property, very near the Wien Hbf, just about 5 minutes for walking. Staff was enthusiasm. Interior of a 4 bed dormitory was at good condition. There were all necessary things such as hair dryer, shampoo/shower gel, towels, toilet paper, floor towel in the bathroom, good heater and the room was warm. There is a room for luggage storage in ground floor, very convenient. We will stay here next time.

IndonesiaThere are some marks on the walls that are completely normal for a hostel. However, the room itself was very clean (I was staying in the room on my own)
I arrived on Sunday morning and the hotel staff were happy to assist me in leaving my bag in a safe room since I still had many hours before checking time. I really love the location and the facilities, and the fact that there are so many people staying here that I did not feel alone at all during my solo trip.
