How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

We had a great room for 5 people, upstairs at the very top of the building...lots of character and a clean, modern bathroom. The breakfast was excellent and the eating area was a very nice space, on warm days you can eat out in the courtyard as well. The location was excellent, right in the old historic area of Bruges which is beautiful. We had a rental car that we had to park which was a little complicated at first, but it was nice that the hotel had dedicated spots for parking as there is very little space for that in the historic area.

Our room didn't have tea or coffee in the room, you had to ask for it at reception. It would of been great if it was all there already.
The breakfast was perfect. Plenty of fresh delicious options available. We all really enjoyed it. We also loved the quirky stair case to and from the first floor.

My ONLY very small concern is that my bed was slightly worn out and slanted. But everyone else had no complaints. Really, it was amazing.
Great location! The theme of the hotel is perfect with the Brugge setting. The staff, the comfortable beds, the breakfast. We love Brugge and definitely will come again.

Hired a garage to store bicycles over night, But was a little anxious as individual garage's were not locked, but are behind a secure roller door. So had no problems...!!

No elevator. We had difficulty to carry our luggeages 2 floors by narrow stairs., No air conditioner. Room has very low ceiling we hit our heads few times. But it was somewhat comfortable and perfect location. Few underground parking in the vicinity. Our stay was ok.

Not so many choices on the breakfast, but fair enough
In the old city centre, clean, warm, comfy, easy to access when we got there later than 8pm and the staff we spoke on the phone to inform that we would be late was very helpful!

The reception is not open 24hrs.

It could have been me but couldn’t seem to turn down the radiator in our room so we were too hot during the night.
The continental breakfast was plentiful and what you would expect. The location was fantastic and well within walking distance for the city centre. The staff were very informative and happy to help with anything.

Room was ok but not great. Dining room was a bit crowded at breakfast even though they tried to stagger timings.

The Black Swan has a lot of old Europe charm, mixed with enough modern covenience to make it a good experience. While the hike up the narrow staircase to the thrid floor was difficult at times, the well done breakfast and very helpful staff made our stay very enjoyable.

The room was smaller than I had imagined. I thought it had a bathtub, but it was a shower room.
Private parking was conveniently available. The front desk and hallways are gorgeous and the breakfast is wonderful. It was convenient to walk to the city center.

The line of wood above the heads is very dangerous. The bathroom had mould and the room smelled mouldy very much. The ventilation in the bathroom didn't seem to make any difference. The sink was ridiculously small so we couldn't avoid dropping water on the floor or on us.
Beautiful hotel. Great location. Good breakfast. Very friendly staff.
