Lovely hotel at a reasonable price, but the rooms are very basic

The room was very basic. But it did the job. The restaurant wasn’t open for evening food and the staff couldn’t be found when it was time to check out and pay

Lovely exterior in a great location, with a nice restaurant (that was only open for breakfast - dinner was at a sister hotel that they would bus you to). Bathroom was decent in the room

Spacious, friendly staff and a fantastic selection of beers. I’ve also read some negative reviews but they can be safely disregarded (September 2024).

Lack of atmosphere. The room was basic and could have been cleaner! The breakfast could have been a little more appealing!

The location was ideal for the occasion. Enough parking space. Attractive value for money!

The breakfast was excellent. The property location was great with easy access to the motorway to Calais. Thomas was a fantastic host and organised the transport to the parent hotel for dinner.

Our room was right next to the lift which was very noisy and used until late. Our room overlooked the front of the hotel where the drive and car park had noisy gravel and people were talking loudly below our window until the early hours. There was no shower door or curtain so the floor got quickly soaked.

The hotel had spacious rooms with comfortable beds. There was a nice shower and because the kitchen was closed when we were there, we were given a lift to the sister hotel to eat. The breakfast was delicious with everything fresh esp the pastries and different breads. We were able to keep our cycles safely locked up in the garage overnight.

The rooms are specious but lack design and style. They look more like student dorms with three beds in each room. One bed is not made. Bathrooms are outdated. Room 3 has stuck shower and sink drain. The water does not drain and it gives you a disgusting feeling. Room 13 has a peeled off wallpaper. In room 3 the bed lights don't fit the actual position of the bed. See photo. The furniture is very minimalist while the rooms are large. No ambiance while the building inspires grandeur and style on the outside, it is not reflected in the design of the rooms unfortunately. Steep stairs between floors so we took the elevator. A total disappointment was the second time we had the dining at Abdij Lo as the restaurant at Hotel Hinterland was closed (this was on a Friday in July while hotel Hinterland was almost fully booked, this does not explain why the kitchen at hotel Hinterland was closed, maybe the chef was on holiday? ). The restaurant at Abdij Lo was fully booked with groups of senior motor bikers, drinking a lot and talking out loud. It was infernal to serve our dinner in such a noise and with 60-100 people in a rather small family restaurant after a tiring travel. Besides the culinary quality of the cook at Abdij Lo was way bellow Hotel Hinterland, this while they share the same menu and we ordered the same dish as at Hotel Hinterland, which was so good the first time we had it and the presentation was very stylish. Not so about Abdij Lo. A caricature. The French receptionist, though very young, does not speak English nor Dutch making communication difficult. Besides, having tongue piercings and tattoos by such a traditional hotel in a small village was a bit out of place. Reaching the hotel in the night can be a challenge as the roads are narrow and the property in inland, about 10 km from main roads.

Nice outdoor space and building. Nice breakfast room. Nice exterior building. Nice parking lot. Great restaurant in Hotel Hinterland if one specific chef is present. In his absence we had to go to the Abdij Lo on another occasion and the cook there is unfortunately way below, very amateurish and a disappointment compared to the chef of hotel Hinterland. The staff is friendly.

The only thing that let the place down a little was that the shower was a bit 'mouldy'. It was clean but the sealant around the edges had blackened a bit and needed replacing.

The hotel was absolutely fantastic. The room was huge and easily and comfortably fit in our little family of 5. The boys loved the views and everything about the area. The staff were outstanding and we loved our visit. Although there is not a restaurant on site, we loved that they picked us up and took us to their sister hotel 10min away for dinner. The portions were HUGE and honestly, my husband would have been fine eating a kids 'half portion'.... and the waffles... OMG they were INSANELY good!

The bathroom was tired and needed upgrading. No evening meals available so had to drive to the next village about 3 km away.

Staff were friendly and helpful. The dining area and terrace bar were very pleasant and ambiant. The breakfast was excellent The big lift was very helpful for taking the suitcase and other stuff to the higher floors.
