Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe pillows are square, which creates an unusual sleeping experience; we discovered they don't have rectangular pillows. Not a deal breaker. The state of the art tablet which controls lighting, temperature and audio is not intuitive e.g. every time we returned to the room, it switched on the fire in the bathroom. Not a deal breaker either.
A boutique hotel should have time to take care of its customers, and The Notary excelled in this area. We were welcomed by the excellent Charles, whose splendid service set the tone for our stay, with his personal recommendations for which landmarks and restaurants to visit. We followed these and he was spot on. Our room was Bohemian in style - perhaps a little dark in the bathroom, but undoubtedly very cool. The highlight dinner of our trip was in the hotel restaurant where Kurt, the adorable chef prepares wonderful food. He will personalize his signature menus given a day's notice and we highly recommend this spectacular experience. the location is easy walking distance to all the highlights of Bruges.

Turkey"I stayed in the King Suite. The atmosphere of the room was great. The only significant downside was that the bathtub looked amazing, but there was no proper shower area, and a lot of water splashed everywhere. Also, the toilet was very, very small and felt too narrow and dark for people with claustrophobia.
The breakfast varieties were very beautiful, healthy, and filling. "The location was amazing. You can reach the city center in 3-5 minutes on foot. The garden, garden view, small pond, and seating areas by the canal were wonderful.

Loved this hotel so much. It looked great online but when we arrived it was even better! Most amazing decor and design and such a cosy and personal feel. The staff were so helpful in recommending resteraunts and super friendly the entire time. The breakfasts were also very delicious! Location was also fantastic and was a five minute walk to everything. Could not recommend the Notary enough ! Will definitely go back there on our next trip to Bruges.

United KingdomThere is nothing not to like about this hotel!! If I had to be really picky I would have loved a full length mirror in our room but this would definitely not put me off staying here again.
The Notary is a quirky, intimate, luxury hotel . The staff are friendly & so helpful. The breakfast experience is amazing, well worth the money We stayed in the colonial suite - the room was amazing, the decor was fascinating, and the bed was huge & very comfortable. The location of the hotel is perfect, really close to the shops, restaurants & sights. I would definitely book this hotel next time we visit Bruges

United KingdomBreakfast portion doesn’t justify its pricing. Only had it once due to this. It was tasty, no complaints with the food quality.
It’s a lovely boutique hotel, looks so subtle and private from the outside. Amazing decor on the inside and huge garden space leading the canal with wild pool & very secrete spa facilities. Staff here are super helpful and very friendly. Don’t think I will be able to stay elsewhere if I ever return to Bruges this place is special.

IrelandUnderstaffed, even at 7.30 in the morning no staff around. Not acceptable for such a hotel. It’s so expensive and getting no support at times not acceptable. Rooms are great but our one was so full everywhere with objects, lights, sofas, pouffes etc and basically no place to walk and not comfortable
Amazing interiors, Christmas trees everywhere super cozy and nice, location fantastic, great breakfast even the smaller one, most of the staff were helpful, SO COZY

United KingdomThe room, while very well-designed, could be a little more practical. There are lots of objects everywhere, leaving little space for your own belongings; there’s no practical place to open a suitcase, and nowhere to hang a towel near the shower.
The hotel is stunning; it feels very intimate and personal, more like staying in a friend's house than in a hotel. The attention to detail is generally excellent, with every aspect of the environment carefully considered—from the design and music to even the smell. The garden and pool are just as beautiful as the interior.
