There’s a plastic cover over the mattress but it doesn’t bother so much

My stay at Chamos hostel was one of the best, especially because of the incredible staff! The facilities are great and the rooms are well designed, the shared spaces are very wellcoming, and the kitchen is well equipped. The big plus is, of course, the people- mostly the amazing staff, always with a smile and always there to help, especially with my experience. I needed help with managing the rest of my trip and got so much help from the staff, that included even coming with me to the bus station and helping me out. This place really felt like home even just for a few days and I loved it there 🫶🏻

The bed was one of the most uncomfortable I've slept in on my entire 3 month trip. Both the bed and the pillow are completely covered with thick plastic so every move makes noise. But the worst thing is it seems to be maybe a too old cotton futon, very hard and uneven with indentations. I didn't sleep well for 3 nights, just couldn't get comfortable.

Totally everything except the beds. Great people, great location, great price, great vibes, a very good price, everything was great.

Evening with an ok stay, I have been so disappointed by the check out we received with another client. First of all at 10h05, almost ready with our bags done, one of the volunteer told us that if we were slow we will pay more for the afternoon with has stressed us a bit but it’s ok (Check out is at 10h). The main problem now, During our stay, we have drink a beer with the volunteers that let us came with a can in the common room and even stayed with us. After 24h without saying anything to us, they say during the check out that because we got a outside drink inside, they will kept our 50 reals each caution (100 reals/17€). Not only a caution is supposed to be used if we are breaking something to repare it, but all the volunteers let us get in with it, with make us think it’s was ok. If not we would have never done that. They used the excuse that it’s written in the rules, that first of all I don’t know by heart but also they are written only in Portuguese in the hostel. For budget travelers that have payed 100 reals two night there, paying the double because two can of beers have been in the common area is to my opinion absolutely not fare at all. I felt robbed, like they used any excuse to take money from us. I think that this decision come from the boss of the hostel ( that you never see ) and that the volunteers couldn’t do much about it. But telling us at the right moment that it’s forbidden could have saved us from this mess. Also, Given the excessive marijuana use in the common areas by the volunteers, I find it slightly inappropriate to make us feel guilty over a beer. In conclusion, we feel a huge disappointment over this stay even if we met some very nice volunteers in between. The fault might go to the hostel boss.

-No fan -They came to turn off A/C at 7:30am -They charge deposit of $10 equivalent and it says on the rules that you sign that if you don't ask for the deposit back at checkout they are not responsible to return it back even if you later come back for it (how money hungry is this) - very misleading pictures, the hostel was dead, there were only 2 other guests besides me - it was all Spanish speaking workers, have the feeling the guests are too when there's actually some. If you don't speak the language I don't think there will be much interactions.

DO NOT TRUST THE 10 RATED REVIEWS ON HERE. The Hostel staff left a fake review after telling me that they needed the pin code for my booking to find the reservation. Do not trust the staff with your booking details. They left a 10 Exceptional review under my name when the hostel is a 5 at best. The 3 tier bunks are really cramped and all of the mattresses were torn as were the sheets/bed linen. The dorm bathroom was clean but the place just felt grubby due to cracked floor tiles and marks all over the walls. It was impossible to sleep on the Saturday night due to music until dawn - they state that they have live events but don't tell you just how crazy loud they are. Lots of rules and regulations posted all over the hostel and a 50Reals deposit required on check in. Not sure why, there really is nothing to damage as everything is in a state of disrepair already. Avoid this place - there must be better around.

An old hostel in need of TLC but ok for the price. Staff were friendly, such a shame they felt the need to leave a fake review using my account. This is my edited version but most people won't bother.

The female dorm had a bad smell - if possible try to book the mixed dorms! The beds were a bit uncomfortable. Generally, the hostel felt more of an event location where the focus was on the parties on the weekends rather than creating a sociable atmosphere. The pictures of the hostel were misleading as the common areas were not as comfy and as sociable as expected.

The kitchen and the amenities were nice, the party at the weekend was fun. The location was good. One of the mixed dorms had a nice balcony.
