Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GreeceI had a wonderful time in the RWC Hostel. The host and the volunteers really care about your experience and can give you personal advice on where to go and what to watch out for. I felt safe, cared for and most important: I had a lot of fun! It is the kind of hostel where you can follow the vibe. Whether you want to party, or have a chill night. The building (with amazing architecture and loads of flowers and paintings) accommodates for every need. Thanks for the amazing time, will definitely come back 🙏✨

CanadaThe breakfast was good, but not amazing. They should think of changing the plastic cups and plates :) The mattress was comfortable but basic, better fitting sheets could be a good future investment to consider.
I loved the hospitality and warmth felt in this hostel. This Brazilian run and staffed hostel is a great choice. I lucked out when it was quiet and had a bed, looking over the city, in a dorm with just one other person.

LithuaniaNothing. Only that I could stay longer
The best hostel in Rio. This is what I call real hostel, it's not about cheap prices, but about opportunities for solo travelers to find friends and activities. The hostel staff really help you feel at home. They organize different activities every day. The hostel itself is located on a mountain in a safe neighborhood. Very good wifi. Very good common areas. The rooms are spacious, beautiful and authentically decorated

CanadaHad to switch beds every night I was there: Was told to switch over to the same bunk bed as my cousin on the 2nd night, after doing so someone showed up late at night saying we were in their spot. Then, both of us got switched over into a different bunk the following night. (My cousin stayed in the same bunk 2/3 nights, I got moved all 3) 2 toilet stalls right above the main lobby are incredibly small and almost impossible to use even as a small/fit person. Better off walking all the way upstairs to use the 2 main washrooms near the kitchen. As other reviews have mentioned a LOT of stairs and located on a very high hill. Personally didn't mind, but definitely not a good location for anyone with mobility issues.
Beautiful facility/view, overall clean. In a great location, walking distance from lots of tourist attractions. All volunteers were very friendly.

United StatesThe kitchen could use a kettle, but it's not common in Rio and not a big deal
It's a large property and spaced out well- prefect for socializing, as well as having quieter areas for getting work done. The owner and staff are also super friendly and helpful with information and recommendations.

IcelandSome confusion with the rooms and prices, it was a little uncomfortable. Part of the hostel was under renovation, so the guests were placed in more comfortable rooms. At the time of renewing the stay, they were not clear about how much to charge.
I always value the location of the places where I stay. RWC is very well located, in the Santa Teresa neighborhood, very close to the city centrre, the Metrô, the famous staircase, museums and Flamengo beach. The staff with very good vibes at all times. Everything was very good, facilities, respectful and calm environment. A separate chapter for the pool and the incredible view of the sea and the city, from a small terrace on the third floor.

GermanyWas all good. Just missed a peeler to peel potatoes carrots etc in the kitchen. As the kitchen was recently reopened, they probably gonna buy soon one. :)
Lovely view at the lagoon and Niteroi. Overall in the night. A lot of space to sit chill and lay around. TV and sofas, a hammock, a pool and more space to chill at the pool. All what the heart wants. Then you have lapa and it’s bars close but far enough that’s quite in the hostel :)

GermanyNo complaints whatsoever!
I only got to stay for one night, but this hostel would be even more perfect for people staying a little longer. It's in a great location: walking distance from stores, the metro and the nightlife of Lapa, but also in a quiet neighbourhood, where you can relax in a very nice environment and enjoy the panoramic view of the city from above. The house is just beautiful and the pool is the best hangout spot after a day of sightseeing.

IrelandAbsolutely brilliant new hostel right in the centre of Rio. A short walk to the bars and restaurants of Lapa and very close to the city centre. There's a beautiful pool which overlooks the entire city and loads of communal spaces to hang out with others. The staff are so kind and welcoming and it really felt like home. Also, had the most beautiful view for my breakfast this morning which you will find hard to beat anywhere else in the city. Highly recommend for a few nights in the city centre exploring Rio :)

PhilippinesI guess the rules were not really as strict especially during quiet hours, there was a time when it was past midnight and the people in the common are were loud and sounding drunk. I would say cleanliness is also not bad but not good. a little more pool and bathroom maintenance would be nice.
Breakfast was filling enough, and they served quite a few options for everybody to choose from. A lot of the staff are volunteers and they are nice, helpful and accommodating. there were some language barrier but they try their best to communicate anyway possible. They also have the initiative to take any of the interested hostel guests to join their daily activities around the neighborhood. I was able to join them during one of the street parties to experience local Rio culture during Carnival Season. It was an opportunity to explore the city and meet different people. I got my phone stolen in the streets while I was there and the staff were kind enough to let me contact my family through their personal phones or the hostel computer. Daniel helped me out a lot in terms of getting around the area, where to go, how much fares, etc.

ArgentinaStaff and owner were not really organized in general and did not communicate breakfast/pool time and hostel politics to us right when we arrived. Breakfast buffet was too small, lacking food for the number of guests there. My Booking reservation was also not registered in the system which took a bit of a time for me to arrange myself in the room. Staff also did not make the bed for us – that was not such a big problem but it was weird to me as in every hostel I went before I arrived tired from the trip with at least my bed ready to be used. They forgot to give one of my friend's bed pillow and the staff took a lot of time to bring it to her too. Fortunately I stayed in a spot in the room where the air conditioner was good (me and my friends also paid extra for it) but one of my friends was a couple of meters from me and complained about the heat in her spot. Another friend also had her black shirt bleached due to drops of hygiene products on the bathroom sink. Towels that I did not used or asked for were charged in my bill during checkout but at the the end I did not pay for those (of course). Volunteers did not know tips on what to do when we stayed there – except for Natalia, from Porto Alegre <3. At least in other hostels I stayed before I was provided a book or a flyer on the hostel's recommendations such as spots to visit and parties to go.
Loved the mansion, location and the pool there. My bed was also really good. Natalia, from Porto Alegre, was also the nicest volunteer that made sure our stay was the best as possible. She gave us some recommendations for places to visit and things to do, which other volunteers did not know.
