I wasn’t informed until AFTER I made the nonrefundable reservation that the pool is closed, they no longer provide kayaks, and they’re undergoing noisy construction that starts at 7am sharp each morning

Fantastic location, friendly staff, and comfortable beds

Dorm room was small. Lots of mosquitoes in the kitchen area. There is building work going on at the moment which I knew about and it didn’t spoil my stay. I think this hostel will be even better once they have finished the extension and pool etc.

The location was good, close to bars, restaurants, supermarkets. It is opposite the sea. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Free water. There is a shared kitchen to use but the restaurant also has nice food and reasonable prices. Good WiFi. Easy to meet people here. Beds were comfortable in the dorm rooms and private with a curtain and bed side light and shelf.

    1) The dorms were a little crowded and tomb-like. 2) Too much noise at times from the restaurant. 3) A little cramped. 4) Bathrooms need an overhaul with better design for hanging and keeping stuff, the showers and toilets can be a bit unclean and the floors icky due to overuse.

    1) A superb location smack-bang on the beach in San Pedro. 2) Excellent staff, passionately helping out with every question that you may have. 3) The dorms had charge-points, lights and a dressing area with soft lights. 4) Gave me access to a sister property to run a google meet call when this property became noisy. 5) Empathetic restaurant staff who helped me figure out vegetarian food choices.

No common area, there was just a restaurant open to anyone. Dorms were very small and there could be more bathrooms

Friendly staff Location, close to the airport and to other restaurants and shops. Also located right on the beach. Great food at the restaurant in the hostel

The porch off of the room that overlooked the ocean was a perfect place to hang out after a day of activities. I loved the hammock! We also enjoyed having the restaurant right downstairs. And the location was right in town - perfect. Highly recommend!

The only bad thing about the hostels was the washrooms were cramped with not very good water pressure / privacy. But while I was there they were renovating them, so I'm sure they will improve!

I really liked the location, right across from the palapa bar that had amazing fish swimming around it all day and a beautiful bull shark came to visit two nights in a row!! The restaurant attached to the sandbar was actually very good aswell. Friendly staff, and a stones throw from the ocean.

Beds hard, no sheets, just a top blanket. Bikes weren’t ready, chain loose flat tire, we needed an extra basket put on for 2 riders. Collectivo not close with luggage.

Beautiful gardens, clean, very accommodating. Kitchen very well equipped. Very nice people. 10min out of town, restaurant and grocery store 5min bike ride.

Well, I booked it seeing a pool, beach chairs etc but once I booked I got an automated response that they are under construction and can use the Drifts plunge pool and kitchen. Kitchen not fully equipped by any means, lots of food stolen from fridge on several occasions and kitchen only opened at 8 and lights out in kitchen 8. This said, I would definitely come back here as only hostel in San Pedro, location, very affordable and once constant noise of construction in done it will be amazing

The beachfront was definitely the asset. Great to have a hopping bar and restaurant right at the bottom and my favorite were the hanging chairs in the corner. Always a bonus to have free drinking water

Things to know - There is construction next door, so can be noisy. They give a discount on the rate for this. The shower doesn't have enough hooks to hold your clothing and towel. They share a refrigerator with the hostel behind them. It gets messy and crowded. No social events, but everyone is pretty friendly

Beds have privacy curtains. There is a large locker underneath the bed that should hold all your things. Bring your own lock. The whole place is cleaned frequently. There is a shelf and light next to the bed. Staff is nice. They will hold your luggage before/after checkin/out. There is a restaurant that looks at the water. Don't have to buy anything to sit there, but the food is very good. There is free water. Wifi is pretty decent. Bed was medium firm and comfortable. The sheets are unscented - for those who are sensitive to scent. A/C works well.

Aside from sharing a room with people I wouldn't really call it a hostel. It's more of a restaurant with inflated food costs. No traditional hostel vibe at all...

Kitchen: the kitchen is shared with another accommodation, it is well kept and yet somehow dirty. Dorms: the a/c is on 24/7 at somehow a Baltic temperature. This also means that nobody opens the windows, which in a dorm with 16 people is close to illegal. There were people ill in my dorm and we all got it.

The hostel is located on the beachfront and sheltered from the awful San Pedro town. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes within 10 min walking, including the one in the hostel.

Its mainly a hotel and a Restaurant/ Bar. So the service personnel kind of treats you like guests 2nd class... not in a bad way, but nothing special or charming like in small family-like hostels. They are busy and its business-like. They are neutral and thats okay. So expect more of an anonymous stay with a really good Price-performance ratio for that crazy expensive island.

Really a good option if you travel San Pedro on a budget. Nice beds with a lot of privacy! Directly at the ocean. Good A/C, big room!

The hostel was cheaper than normal as they are doing construction. As a result there really wasn’t any sociable areas (other than the restaurant but it’s popular so it’s not really a place to meet people). It’ll be amazing when the renovation is done

The dorms are so nice! They are designed really well and have privacy curtains. They’re designed as two stackable wooden capsules almost. Very spacious lockers. Bathrooms are shared but clean. Right on the beach and close to the main strip

The hostel was undergoing renovations, which was a little disruptive - there were workmen in the women’s bathroom the majority of our first couple of days there. We were made aware of this prior to arrival though, we’d love to stay again when the renovations are finished.

My partner and I loved our stay at Sandbar, we found the beds very comfortable and slept very well. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful and the restaurant area was lovely to hang out in. The food was also very good! The location is fab too, everything is very accessible.
