I think near by have a lot of bars so can get very loud at late at night and the bells from the clock tower going off every hour can wake you up

It was very hot in the rooms didn’t have proper air-conditioning. Unfortunately, the entryway was quite smelly because it was next to cheese or fondue restaurant.

There were no closets or storage of any kind in my room so you're always looking at a more or less disorganized / visually uncalm room. Tiniest bathroom I've ever experienced (but it worked). No fridge. I visited in mid-May, not super warm yet but the room was already a bit stuffy and there was no AC. I initially had no fan either but after I called down, hotel staff brought one — whose display didn't work so you couldn't easily find the digital controls. I managed, but with a lot of trial and error. The front desk staff were literally a block away in a different building. I would have felt safer if there'd been 24/7 oversight of who entered the "secondary" location where I was staying. Zurich is hardly a crime-ridden city so this was OK in the end but I did get propositioned by two sex workers night after night, when I returned to my room. Also, some guys were smoking something in the recessed entrance a couple of times. Neither of these experiences were pleasant but I don't fault the hotel for them.

Unfortunately, there was no air conditioning in the guesthouse and our room was tiny. So we asked to swap to the hotel as they had A/C. However, it really wasn’t proper air-con. It was a pre-set climate control that you couldn’t control. Being spring, it was quite warm and stuffy in the rooms, so we needed the windows open for ventilation. The hotel is located right on a Main Street and the drunks were out in force all night. The noise was excessive and we literally did not sleep. Otherwise, it was reasonable.

There are actually 2 properties, the hotel and the guesthouse. They’re located just one street away from each other. Reception is at the hotel, so when arriving, go to the hotel, not the guest house. Staff were great and very helpful. Location is central. Right near the water, train station and lots of restaurants.

We had booked a short stay with the Alexander Guesthouse on our way back and we received a really warm welcome and a room upgrade! I should note that our upgraded room was actually at the Alexander Hotel (not the guesthouse) and we were even allowed to check in early. Notes: - staff was super polite and made us feel really at home - a very cosy experience overall. - modernly furnished room, big comfy bed, nice bathroom. Not very spacious but not too small either. Very clean. - complimentary coffee, filtered water and fruit at each floor - complimentary access to the Zurich Zoo (upon availability) - this was actually the highlight of our experience. - location is excellent, right at the heart of the old town, very close to the main station too. Despite the location, the room was very quiet. - great value given the hotel rates in Zurich. I recommend this place and would book again if I return to Zurich.
