How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

The reception was impolite during check-in. Why is deposit needed for one night stay when the guest want to pay total in advance? It’s ridiculous

Bad insulation! I had neighbours that kept me up all night with their shouting/ moving things. Room was alright, but relatively small for the price.

Room basic. Only 1 pillow each and very flat. No bedside table on one side. No wardrobe. Stayed in much better hotels on our trip to Switzerland

The wi-fi connection can be challenging, as it requires a code sent to your mobile phone which may not always work. Ask the staff for help to resolve the issue.
Hyperion is a modern hotel, very close to Basel city centre with excellent tram connections to the centre and the train stations (Basel SBB and Badische Bahnof). The rooms on high floors are of good size with good views. There is an opportunity to use the executive lounge which provides additional comfort. However, what makes Hyperion special is the staff at the reception desk - very professional, helpful and with great integrity (even if you forget some of your belonging). Thank you and look forward to visiting again.

The area was to far from the center and in this price should have been included a breakfast.

The drainpipes were in a dire need of cleaning from the shower which left a potent smell in the whole room as there was no door the shower. Was very difficult to get rid of the smell and was there all night long.
Location was great, Basel tickets were very useful. Very spacious, nice views Layout of rooms were unique

Free bottles of water in the bedroom though I assume water from the tap is drinkable

Has a slightly sterile feel in the foyer etc, could be styled up a bit, has bad lighting or something also. same with rooms, a bit drab, but that’s minor and likely just personal preference.
Very warm welcome by two lovely women, gave us a bit of an early check in no problem, was just easy. Location is great with Basel card you jump on trams out front of hotel to go to old town which is not far. Room nice design with full length windows looking out, great bathroom. Not a huge room, but enough room for two of us. Hotel is a big chain style but it is very pleasant and has a lot to offer.

At some point we thought that there could be more air in our room. (Maybe we should just have programmed the ventilation in a different way. Finally we turned it off and it got a bit better...)
Loved the view on the new year's fireworks, the style of the room and that the minibar's items where for free! The room was very clean and the bed very comfy. We really liked the overall style of the building as well. There was a fast check-in and check-out even if there was a lot of people! Bravo to the staff!

Particular room had a pillar in the middle of the windows which blocked the otherwise splendid view.
Minibar consumptions included in room rate. Hassle-free, comfortable stay. Good location with lots of eating possibilities in the neighborhood. Nice bath room with rain dance shower.

Although the sheets and towels, bathroom etc was really clean and well organized; the room itself was dusty (floors and furnitures).
Great location, great view from the room, very comfortable stay. Breakfast was amazing, worth to pay. The staff was really helpful and super kind.

We checked in as part of a cruise group. Probably 85 of us. The staff seemed a bit overwhelmed. I’m not really into the decor, very modern and austere, but clean, quiet and safe.
The room was very nice. Had trouble getting the temperature adjusted (too hot). Breakfast was GREAT! The location was great, tram stop right out front. Would definitely stay here again.
