Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaWe were aware that this hotel wouldn't have air conditioning and it is not the hotel's fault that we didn't realize just how hot it would be in Lucerne. However, our room faced east, so we received the morning sun and there wasn't any room darkening curtains, so the room got very uncomfortable. We asked for a second fan the second day, which we received. Then during cleaning housekeeping closed the windows and turned off the fans, so we came back to a very hot room. Also, there is a church just across the street (again on the east side of the building) and the bells chimed every hour and on the 45. So although we kept our windows opened at night, due to the noise we didn't get much sleep.
This hotel is in a great location, walking distance to restaurants, attractions and the train station. The breakfast was a traditional European breakfast and was quite good. The room was clean and was a good size for 3 travelers. The hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating. Overall, a very quaint little hotel in the heart of Lucerne.

United StatesNothing!!
We absolutely love the location of our room/hotel. It was quiet, very clean, well lit, and the bathrooms was spacious and modern. The room has windows, which was very useful in the month of July. There’s an elevator in the building the staff was very helpful. They took our luggage while we were sightseeing and later they put our luggage in our room. The breakfast was scrumptious – they were eggs, bread, yogurt with granola, fruits, and much more. They also made us coffee and tea to our liking. The person on the front desk was very kind and friendly. They gave us bus passes for the town. We were also allowed to use the restroom before we had checked, and it was an amazing experience, and I would highly recommend this hotel. The only suggestion from our end is putting another fan in the room would be really useful. We already had one big fan but in the month of June, July, and August another fan in the room would be really nice.

AustraliaAmazing location for the price point. The hotel is newly renovated, so it was clean and had a modern feel. The staff were amazing and pointed us in the right direction to find the cities hidden gems. Breakfast was great with generous portions. Highly recommend staying here!

United StatesOn Saturday, July 15th we arrived at the Hotel Stern Luzern at approximately 2pm local time. When we were greeted at the front desk we were told that our room was ready so we did not have to wait to check in. The room type we booked was a Superior double room, and the room assigned to us was located on the second floor. After stepping into the room and setting aside our two suitcases we begin to realize this room was extremely tight for two adults. It was difficult walking around in the small space and hitting the bed frame was unavoidable when just taking a few steps. The room had one large bed and one additional bed. There was no sofa bed even though the description of the room we reserved online indicated otherwise. Our experience was not good overall. We could barely sleep all night because the room was completely stuffy. There was no AC and this made things very uncomfortable. It was a very hot day and I wasn’t feeling well. I decided to rest in the room before I went to explore Luzern because I had a bad headache. Even though there was an Oscillating fan in the room it didn’t make my symptoms better. The only time I felt relief was when I wasn’t inside the room. My sister who shared the room with me didn’t sleep all night. Also the TV wasn’t working and the curtains had stains. If we would have booked anything more than one night I would have addressed our concerns during our stay. I am hoping your hotel reads these reviews and is open to listening to this feedback. Hopefully your team can make changes for other guests that decide to stay at your property to create a better experience. Thanks, Suzan

FranceThis is minor, but we didn't notice when we arrived that one of our windows was open (it was dark out and the curtains were closed). The next morning, we were woken up by very loud construction right across the street from our windows. The windows (when closed!) are extremely soundproof, though.
Our room was comfortable and perfectly located. We stayed in the annex and arrived late so we had to do the self check-in, but it went very smoothly and was just as convenient as they'd made it sound in the email. The staff was fantastic—very attentive and friendly. I would stay here again!

NetherlandsCurtains do not block the light enough. Close to two churches, so bells ringing every 15 mins, although not after dark. 2 proper bedside tables would have been nice, as would a tea making facility in the room. Water was provided, but not refilled after one night. Also, a restaurant was mentioned in the description, but there was no restaurant in the property. According to Google, it was closed permanently, but it was mentioned in every communication from the hotel and booking.
Friendly staff. Breakfast not a buffet, but quite enough to start the day on. Room had comfy beds and a good television. Bathroom clean and good central location.

AustraliaWould prefer a buffet style breakfast where you can choose what you want…we don’t eat meat so gave ours (provided) to another family! Would have like bigger serve of healthy cereals/muesli…extra coffee!!
We stayed in the annex on 4th (top) floor with a view of the river! Location was delightful! Spacious room, comfortable bed, private! Check in was great and the young couple who greeted us were brilliant!!

United StatesThe bed was the best we've slept in, in many years. We've traveled 5 countries this trip and stayed in a lot of hotels and the bed at this hotel was wonderful. The location of the hotel is perfect. Easy access to all activities around Lucerne and only a 5 minute walk from train station and all flat. The front desk help was so kind and helpful. Remember, this is an old and charming building, so it may not have all the fancy amenities as some do, but I personally prefer charming and an exceptionally comfortable bed. We stayed in room 42.

Our room was very spacious, and we had a lovely view outside of our window. The bed was very comfortable, and the hosts were always very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was fantastic - yoghurts, granola, croissants, meats and cheeses, etc! We had a 1 minute walk to the water and we’re extremely close to waterfront restaurants, shops, cruise boats, etc. It was lovely and quiet.

CanadaThere is no air conditioner in the room. It is very hot in Summer. Can barely sleep at night as it is too hot. Secondly, I would appreciate if I could get the information about Luzern visitor card when I book the hotel or a kind reminder when checking in the hotel. The information was sent to my email only a couple days before arriving the hotel while I was already on vacation with limited access to internet. As a result, I missed it and couldn’t use the benefit of the visitor card that was quite a loss.

TaiwanThe sofa bed is old and looks dirty. The price we paid were not worthy. Actually, this is the most expensive price we pay during the 16 nights in Switzerland. A night is CHF$300. We were on the top floor and only fans. During the night, we couldn’t even open the windows to let the wind come in because all the bug were attracted to the lights and gathered in the room.
Breakfast and the staff.
