Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesPlease tell the roosters to sleep in a bit longer!
I loved, loved this place. It was easy to get to know and make friends with fellow travelers. The basic and simple structures, with window screens, instead of glass windows and plenty of shade trees made it easier to enjoy the natural setting than my sister's place at a nearby resort with air conditioning and a pool, with no shade trees. I loved watching the herons fishing in front of the rooms in the early morning light, and snorkeling in front of my room. I loved seeing the roosters wander about.I loved not needing to wear shoes all week. I loved skipping down the beach barefoot to a restaurant at a fancy resort to eat dinner on the beach. The outdoor shower and bathrooms added to the island charm. This place is more like glamping than a resort, so its not for everyone, but its fabulous for those who want to breathe fresh air, hear the wind and waves while they sleep at night, and enjoy the island the old fashioned way.

United StatesPlease judge these comments knowing that I understood this would be rustic beach huts and I've traveled at a lot of different levels of comfort. I fully expected some bugs and mildew and was not disappointed. Unfortunately, the downside of the Garden unit is that it is back from the beach and tucked against the owners unit, you get a private bath but the mosquitos are fierce and you get very little of the sea breeze. Outside seating was unusable due to mosquitos. The mosquito netting for the bed was great and stayed down all the time - however, that left little room in the unit. The unit gets uncomfortably hot and humid and the single floor fan does not help much. Water pressure in the shower was almost nonexistent, a gravity fed dribble. Weird and unsafe stove setup, a propane camp stove inside with no ventilation. I ate every meal out. Not a place for people who aren't used to roughing it in undeveloped places.
I was met and dropped off at the airport ($10 fee each way). Bed was large and comfortable with good mosquito netting. Bikes were free for your use. Best snorkeling on the island (and the best I've done in a while) was right in front of the property - much better than you will get on any of the lagoon cruises. Small fridge worked. Internet was $5 for the week and reasonably fast and stable. I had the Garden Unit, the only unit with a private ensuite bath which for me is a must have. Excellent restaurants within easy walking distance. Day spa next door. Fire pit on the beach. I did not stay in the beachfront huts as they do not have an ensuite bath, but they appeared to have great sea breezes and views with nice porches.

United StatesThe rugs felt a bit dank, but I'm not sure that could be helped without having heating/air conditioning? The free bikes, paddleboards and snorkel gear have seen sunnier days, but it's great they are available since there's few, if any, places to rent such gear. I was happy for the use of snorkel fins since mine couldn't fit into my luggage.
I liked the entire experience! The location can't be beat for walking from your front porch to the beach for snorkeling or paddle boarding. The huts were in the trees so the rooms stayed cooler from the shade, although there is a fan if it does get too hot (no AC). Each hut has its own kitchenette with dishes/pots/pans, and private outdoor shower. Bikes, paddleboards and snorkel gear were available to use for free. It was a lovely place to sit on the beach, chat with your hut neighbors, and watch the roosters pecking in the sand, and the herons and cats fishing! Matthias offers a snorkeling tour, even going beyond the reef. We had spectacular sea-life sightings on his tour! He also kindly brought us mangoes and bananas!

United StatesOk if you’re fine with shared outhouse for beach cabins. No view in garden unit, but has private bathroom and way too soft of a bed. Overall, very basic which is fine for me. I thought it a bit overpriced, but everything in the Cooks is overpriced…
Right on the beach. Quiet. Bicycles and SUP and no charge.

New ZealandThe property is a little tired but everything works. Neighbours rooster chorus gets an early start.
Fabulous spot amongst the trees and right on the beach. Saw a whale frolicing just past the reef. Some old Paddle boards make the lagoon accessible. Tidy huts with a balcony. Has everything you need to self cater and mossie nets which are essential. We were able to rent a scooter onsite and free use of bicycles Nice sunset spot.

I loved this place. Right on the beach and everything you need. Even the cat makes you feel welcome! A walk along the beach will show you the resorts next door but at Matriki you get the same view for a fraction of the price. The free bikes made shopping really easy...a five minute pedal

AustraliaBeing 66 and 68 the steep stairs in tree house and toilet downstairs and shower 50 metres away made it difficult at night. Better for 20 to 40 year olds. Cheap and cheerful for adventurous travellers on a stunning lagoon.

Czech RepublicThere was really a lot of mosquitos. Altough we were using repelent, I need to wear long pants outside.
Simple but really nice huts right on the beach. It has everything you need for your stay, beach was great for snorkeling or just chilling and you can rent scooter (25NZD/day) or bikes for free here. And the lagoon cruise with Matthias was out of the world, we really recommend it.

New ZealandThe bed was incredibly soft, I have never in my life slept on something like that. It would need some deep cleaning allover, don’t get me wrong it wasn’t dirty, but you could see some spots that would need attention- specially the bathroom. Would be great if there was a airport pick up even in the early hours as we arrived at 6AM and there was nobody to pick us up or not even a taxi, we were lucky enough there were some local women and they took us to the cafe, where Matthias picked us up at 8.
Right at the beautiful beach with amazing snorkeling, very quiet, amazing sunsets, close to the shops, right next to the Tamanu beach with the island show, close to the Pacific resort. We stayed in the garden unit which has private bathroom and toilet- great. Little sitting outside was nice too. Free bikes ( they are little rusty but do the job) to ride around the island which I recommend, we’ve seen the whole island and sweat a little bit as a bonus! The lagoon cruise with Matthias was without the doubt the best think that is happening on that island!!! Worth every dollar ($150 pp). Not just that he takes you around the lagoon where all the other boats go too, but he also took us to see the outer reef which was the best part- so much life (lots of turtles, rays, colorful corals, milion fish). We had lunch at honeymoon island with a little walk around- Matthias is very knowlegable and since he lives on the island for 30 years he knows what he is talking about- so interesting! We met other cruise with like 50 people at the one foot island and we were just sooo happy to be in small group of 5!!!

NetherlandsIt is all a bit dated, but that's why you pay relatively little.
Be aware that you go to a budget accomodation. Switch your mindset to it and you will have a great time! Perfect beach access, with fabulous snorkling right in front of the huts. Mattias and Riki provide simple bicycles, but for free. Pleasant to keep you mobile to supermarkets, takeaways and restaurants on that side of Aitutaki. And do Mattias' boat cruise! It is worth every dollar; snorkeling with the giant trevallies is a great experience!
