Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaPretty expensive for a hostel but this is expected on the island I guess.
Beautiful quiet hostel with a great vibe, spacious living space and a large kitchen. Well run hostel and the owner gives good discounted prices on most tours and activities. Had a great stay here and met some cool people.

United KingdomJust a suggestion - not requested or expected: The walk to the main centre is just 10 minutes, but it would be nice to have a lift if possible, especially when the sun is high or when it gets dark at night.
Complimentary transport from and to the airport. The shared kitchen has everything you need. Super clean. The staff is exceptionally friendly and supportive when organising trips and other activities. High value for money. Plenty of options for accommodation type and budget (we chose a private room with a private bathroom).

Tranquility and cleanness, free access (for all guests) to the very spacious and well equipped kitchen, and last but not least, owner and host Beni who will help you with any problem or doubt you may have. He provides free transportation from and to the airport, and will give you information about tours, shops, places worth visiting, etc. He truly cares about all his guests so they feel comfortable and safe during their stay at his place (ie.home).

United StatesThe WiFi was very slow or almost nonexistent during my stay, which made it difficult to stay connected. It’s about a 10-20 minute walk to the beaches — not a huge issue since the town is small and easy to explore on foot. The roosters were quite noisy in the mornings, but that seems to be common across Rapa Nui, so it’s more of a local charm than a fault of the stay itself.
The host family is wonderful — they’re friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help whenever they can. They call the hostel "Home" from the start, and it truly feels that way. There’s a beautiful lawn right in front of my room, adding to the cozy atmosphere, and the shared kitchen with two stoves makes cooking easy and convenient. It’s a warm, comfortable place that really lives up to its name.

ThailandIt would be nice to have a fan in the room, just coz it gets very hot and humid in the middle of the night when the wind direction changes.
Absolutely everything is amazing. The free pick up and drop to the airport is so useful. Then, there are plenty of bathrooms, a beautiful huge garden, drinking water available at the same price as supermarkets, 2 big kitchens, and super organized cutlery and beds situation. Very hot water for shower, good pressure. Night lights for everyones comfort. Plenty of charging points in the dorms. Big lockers for safety. Personal side tables with drawer for everyone. Hooks to hang stuff everywhere. It's a very well thought out and well designed space. The best of it all is the kindness and generosity of Benjamin the owner. He offers tours and traditional rapa nui shows at a reduced price for guests, which I would highly recommend.

United StatesRoosters start making noise from dawn everyday, but that's everywhere in this island. Lol
The hostel owner was super nice and friendly. He also provided small group tours which were cheaper than what you can find online. Beautiful facility with tons of nature. Great location, walking distance to the airport and downtown.

United KingdomThe hostel was booked out by a large Chilean group, which was great for the first four nights because I got upgraded from a dorm room into a twin room on my own. On the final night a man was moved into my room, as a young single female on my own it didn’t feel very safe to be on my own with a strange man in a twin room and therefore I struggled to relax/sleep (another woman wouldn’t have been an issue). It didn’t ruin my stay at all, I loved it. Just some feedback for the owners if a situation like this comes up again :)
I loved my stay here the whole site was stunning, with a beautiful green space, lovely plants etc. There is a small bar, a great kitchen, and plenty of bathrooms. It’s a small walk to the town, but no more than 10 minutes. The owners really do treat you like family, one night they even gave me home-cooked fresh banana bread. The airport pick-up and drop off is really handy too.

Hostal Tipanie was the perfect stay for us on Easter Island. Benjamin the owner picked us up from the airport and transferred us back. His full day tour was a great way to see all the main points of the island. The hostal was clean and felt like we were at home with a family atmosphere. Benjamin provided us a fresh fish BBQ on the night we arrived which was an added bonus. 10/10 recommend this place for anyone looking for comfortable friendly atmosphere on the island. Thank you Benjamin from Canada !!

TaiwanIn general, we are happy while staying here and signed up all activities offered by Benjamin, including 1-day tour, cave exploring, sunrise, scuba diving, horse riding and Kari Kari show. It would be nice if the kitchen can provide salt or cooking oil for guests.
Benjamin is very friendly and organized good tours and activities for tourists.

New ZealandThis is not a complaint, but just to mention that you shouldn’t expect great WiFi connection here — after all, you are on an island!
Benjamin is such a lovely host, he was friendly and welcoming and really shared with his guests about his island and culture. He was also very helpful with organising tours and excursions, so although I arrived in Rapa Nui with no plans I felt that I was able to do everything I had hoped for and more! The facilities are kept very clean and tidy, all the rooms are cleaned everyday. No complaints!

BrazilConsidering it is a hostel, the quality and cleanliness of the facilities, the organization of the hosts and the atmosphere of the place exceeded my expectations. Benjamin is always available to pick you up from and take you to the airport, offer tours and rides and tell great stories while relaxing with friends and other guests by the barbecue or in the kitchen. I went to the island without having previously booked any tours and I was extremely satisfied with the service provided by Benja in this regard - a full day tour to the island's attractions, a typical dance show at night and recommendations for diving. I had a great time!

United KingdomThe wifi is terrible, but what do you expect on the island? That said, it can be stressful when you're trying to check in to flights or book your next location!
The convenient location includes free pick-up/drop-off with the airport minutes away. The kitchen was large and had everything you need to cook for yourself. You also get your own personal box of kitchenware! The magic of the island exists in this hostel. I met such wonderful people here. Rapa Nui can be dizzyingly expensive, but what you get for the price of this accommodation is unbelievable.

SingaporeA slight walking distance to the main stretch of Hanga Roa. Chickens crowing every now and then, but I guess it’s the same everywhere in Easter Island, and it adds to its charm.
Location nearby the airport. About 15 mins walk to the main stretch of Hanga Roa. Cosy place with common kitchen and dining areas to meet up other fellow travellers and chat! Great vibes.

GermanyIf I could give more than 10 stars to the Tipanie Moana Hostel I would do so! It is a groomed, very cared for hostel with a blooming garden.Recycling is of great importance and there are containers to seperate waste. Rooms with/ without private bathrooms/ dormitory are available, no matter which one you choose, they are all very beautiful, comfortable and clean. Enough bathrooms are available, also 2 spacious and well equipped kitchens. You have private space on your own terrace and there are areas where you can sit with others, also a place for barbecue. It is a nice 10 minute walk to town,, 15 minutes to the waterfront / beach. Benjamin, the owner, goes out of his way to make his guests feel happy and comfortable. He has bicyles available, supports with car rental, offers every tour and all of that for real good prices. Every wish / need you might have, he will try to arrange it, if possible. For me definitely the best place to stay on Rapa Nui Island.

Benjamin is an incredible host, always going above and beyond for his guests! He also picked us up and dropped us off at the airport, both times giving us a welcome and farewell gift! He took us to the Kari Kari show with a discounted price. We didn't do the one day full tour but we were told it was great (7 stops, 55 CLP pp with lunch). The room was clean and big enough, the bed was comfortable although a bit small for us. The kitchen had all we needed, and it was clean. The hostel is less than 10 min walking from the main street where you can find everything you need
