Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

MalaysiaIt was a blessed time. There was nothing I did not like and enjoy.
My stay at the Derunju Guesthouse, Huairou, at the Great Wall of China: My stay at the Derunju Guesthouse, Huairou, at the Great Wall of China: “The location was magical. Although I did not have a room with a view, as soon as I got out into the corridor, I was surrounded by the beauty of the rugged landscape rising far above, bearing a section of the Great Wall. Having few guests at that rapidly turning wintry weather, the proprietress accompanied me the next day on a 6-km 6-hour walk on the Wall starting from the Guesthouse in Derunju Village. It was a sunny day and this turned out a glorious walk, in which my warm-hearted host showed me every consideration, and we were as companionable as old friends. She told everyone we met that I was 79 and from Malaysia. We climbed up to more than one hill station, the steps in some places being knee-high, and at one point we could see on the opposite side of the lake the section of the Great Wall where it slopes dramatically into the water. In the evening, I feasted on my host’s heartily delicious cuisine… And over the few days of my stay she cooked hot sour soup, jiaozi (northern dumplings) eaten with extremely hot chilli oil, local millet porridge, freshly caught local fish in a local sauce, and home-grown vegetables... We went on a road trip to see some other local sights as well; and I was also very grateful that she helped arrange a taxi for my onward trip to Beijing city. Many thanks for an unforgettable visit. I hope to return with friends/family someday. KB Yap (Ms)

ChileThe town and its properties seem a bit abandoned in general, don't expect anything too fancy.
The food was delicious and fresh, growing by the owner on the site in front of the place. She cooked at the time that I needed, and with the ingredients I asked, it was perfect. Also, it has a big terrace with a view of the Big Wall and the mountains. By the way, that section of the wall is exciting and beautiful, without thousands of tourists everywhere. I could walk alone the most part of the time.

JapanPowder coffee for breakfast (you can get good espresso downtown).
This was my second time at Derunju Guesthouse. This time I cycled from Beijing via the Ansi Road, which turned out to be much easier but less scenic than the Huaichang Road. I stayed for two nights. I thoroughly enjoyed the warm welcome of the proprietress and the ample and delicious food she prepared for me. I can recommend the pork roasted with chestnuts and the pancakes! The room was spacious and painstakingly clean. Fast internet is available. Great views from the terrace and a short stroll to the Water Great Wall Park entrance and downtown.

ChinaPerfect location at walking distance to the Water Great Wall park entrance. Property is meticulously clean. Large room with shower and air-conditioning. A la carte dinner and breakfast. Exceptional value for money. The lack of my Chinese language abilities did not hinder communication much.

United StatesWhen I made the reservation, it was advertised that there was a 24-hour front desk, so I intentionally left a message informing them that I would arrive between midnight to 1am. After I arrived around midnight nearby and because there were many small streets with no road lights at all, I had difficulty finding the place. Despite calling them about 20 times and kept sending them messages for help, nobody answered and replied. I had to ask around at midnight before finally locating it about 30 minutes later. The room I had booked was supposed to have a large bed and a small bed, a balcony, a mountain view, a hairdryer, and an electric kettle, but none of these were provided. The only window in the room faced the corridor, so we had to keep the curtains closed to prevent passersby from looking in. The smell from the toilet keeps wafting out from the bathroom to room. When I brought up the room issues with the landlord, they explained that although I had been assigned a room without all these amenities, the price remained the same. They also felt sorry for not answering my 20+ phone calls and leaving me wandering around in the dark for over 30 minutes almost making me leave, all they could do was offer verbal apologies. The breakfast, priced at 40 yuan per person, did not offer good value for money too.
The location is close to Great Wall which is nice.
