Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsHowever, it is clearly a large private house turned into hotel. People do their best, but the whole things airs more something like an AirBNB as a professional hotel. Daughter of the house speaks very good English, but others not. Credit card payment happened to work in my case, but initially they were not sure. Basics like beds, hot water and so on are ok. I could not make the heating work, but the duvet was warm enough. It was a nice hutong experience for one time as an alternative for a modern hotel, but if you want to have luxury go elsewhere. If found it slightly overpriced for what you got. There is no clear sign - using the map which was precise I ended up in front of a big red door, and a bystander told me this was indeed the hotel. Knocked - rang the bell and I was in. But in other feedback you see that people ended up searching for a while. They do not offer breakfast but lots of eateries including a Starbucks nearby.
It is in a classic Hutong area in Central Beijing and that is so much nicer as these modern, non-descript hotels in the modern parts of Beijing. Very close to 3 main metro lines, 10 minutes walking.

ItalyI booked a King size room and got a way smaller room. When I asked to get the room I booked, they refused cause it was already occupied. I therefore asked to get some money back and pay only for the room I got, but the money I got back was way too little, so I ended up by paying too much for that small room. On top of it, the rooms are very badly maintained and pictures do not reflect the actual status of the room. I also found a huge beetle! Do not take the guided tour to the great wall that they propose! We stayed out from 6 am to 7 pm just to be on the wall for a couple of hours, and the great wall is only 2, max 3 hours away from Beijing. The rest of the day was wasted due to very bad Planning.

AustraliaSee above; we arrived late and were unable to identify the property for over an hour, staff (1) was unable to facilitate payment or utilise technology to aid communication, refused to assist with airport transfer at the end of our stay (and with no WeChat getting a taxi was near impossible and we nearly missed our flight). The room was tiny, shower didn’t work properly (just dribbled) hand basin was loose, bare wiring in the room, sheets hung as curtains. We don’t mind basic rooms and conditions but not for over aud$140 per night .
This property should not be advertising on an external platform such as Booking.com. Significantly overpriced, no English signage, no English language skills, no translation capacity or capability, no eft; this property is for locals only who would never have paid such an exorbitant price for such basic rooms.

AustriaThe rate is too high for the facilities. Just bed, tv and bathroom. No basic accommodation supplies like toilet paper, cotton buds, drinking water (all other hotels in China offer), toothpaste and brush. People in the courtyard tend to talk really loud and your room window is just beside them. The room is too old and moist that each time you inhale you feel like mould is going into your lungs. I asked to change my room the first hour I stayed. Unfortunately it’s non-cancelable.
Somehow the location and at the beginning the price but after staying the price is too expensive for the accommodation

ChinaThe staff was not very nice. Didn't recommend anything to do in Beijing or places to go to. Not possible to ventilate the room and bathroom so it was very humid all the time. The shower was not working very well plus impossible to completely close the shower door so the bathroom was quickly flooded. It was quite expensive for what it was.
Located near a metro station and close to city centre and most attractions. Bed and mattress were good.

Greece* One should be aware of the beds, because the mattresses are extra thin. * We constantly had to ask for toilet paper which was not provided with the cleaning of the room. * The bathroom curtain was a real mess, ripped and touching the bathroom floor making it susceptible to moisture. * We found a cockroach in the room and had to ask to have the room cleaned and the rubbish bin emptied regularly.
The hotel has a really fun and traditional vibe. Almost hostel-like (and at times diy-ish), where travelers could meet and talk at the big courtyard tables! Our first room looked cosy and also had a window to the courtyard which was a plus to the light and the atmosphere. It also had the walls covered with a clear glass so that the traditional plaster could show off. The problem was a persisting smell which led us to change to a room with just a small overhead window with little natural light, but with no smell. Which was fine after all. * The room had an air-conditioning unit which helps a ton, with the Beijing heat! (On the dates we stayed, the temperature reached 35ºC!). * The hosts speak english, and are willing to help and provide extra information which is a huge bonus - also we asked for an early check out at 05:30 in the morning and the staff accepted it without any fuss! * The hotel is located near the best food streets in Beijing (Ping'Anli street and Huguosi St), one should really check out! * The Ping'Anli metro station is located at a 10 minute walking distance, which serves lines 4 & 6!
