Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ThailandIt's doubtful that this place will ever offer good accommodation. Even if the rooms had windows and weren't moldy, the location/facility was horrible
There was no ventilation in our room. It was musky smelling with black mold growing on the walls. The location of the hostel is adjacent to a bar and it was noisy until 2 or 3am. The common outdoor area was extremely tiny and definitely not conducive for social gatherings. Quite honestly, this was one of the worst hostels we've ever stayed in and we've stayed in probably at least 50-60 different hostels in our travels. Would never stay at Mahalo again and would definitely not recommend to other travelers.

SloveniaBreakfast is served only from 8am, even if most of the people are leaving for their day-trips (Cocora, hiking,...) much earlier. I got bunk bed in a room in the basement that stank of dampness and mold and had no windows/daylight. There is only one bathroom (toilet + shower) for all the people from the dorm AND STAFF. Terrace is nice but it's locked until 8am and also in the evening.
Close to the main street, sunset point and main square.

AustraliaThe room in the basement is way too small, mattress old and with a hole of other people, the beds too short for me (185cm) and the air in the room was bad as well. Can't recommend Also no protection of falling down from the top beds and the ladders to climb up unstable

United KingdomThere is a cafe area to sit but the kitchen is not accessible so you can't get a coffee or tea easily. There is only one bathroom and it's on a different floor to the dorms. They don't sell simple items like beers. I checked out after 1 night.

FranceNot like in the pictures. You have 2 mahalo hotel so if you look for the rooftop and nice common area and kitchen you will not find it It’s a fake as then should make 2 differents place on booking and not put all the Pictures in one because it’s not true. NO WATER DURING 2 DAYS !!! And we had to get very angry amd ask for a refund in order to have the info that we can shower in the other place next door!!! NOT GOOD SERVICE Very small dorm with very thin wooden wall and floor you can hear evrything and evrything moves when somebody walk.
Very Clean place. Very central. Expensive for a dorm in colombia.

NorwayNot so nice, was that we were assigned to a room in the basement. There were no windows and the door to the room could not properly be locked. Online it stated to have a ensuite bathroom, but in practise you had to leave the room and access the bathroom through the hall. Yes you had a key to this bathroom, but in practise everyone could open it as well.
We stayed 2 nights in the hostel. It is actually not really a hostel as it did not have any kitchen available. The breakfast was nice and location as well.

GermanyI honestly don't understand how this place gets so many good reviews. Maybe the upstairs rooms are better, but I was given a room in the basement which was by far the worst place I've ever come across on Booking. The ceiling of the bedroom and bathroom were entirely covered in mold, the smell was nearly unbearable even with the (tiny) window open. I had troubles breathing in there, this amount of mold can cause some serious health issues. If I hadn't arrived late in the evening, I would have cancelled my stay right away. In addition to that, it is highly overpriced for the tiny mouldy chamber that you get. I stayed in much better accommodations in Colombia (also in Salento afterwards) for approximately the same or less amount of money. Furthermore they are cheating on the booking fees, they offered me a small discount in case I am willing to officially "cancel" my stay. They only accept cash payment (which wasn't clearly communicated when making the reservation) and they only reluctantly give you a proof of payment which I think is non-negotiable when paying with cash only. When I checked out this place on google maps afterwards, I noticed it is being advertised as a "love hotel"...
The terrace has a nice view, that's the only positive thing I can think of

NetherlandsThere were no windows in the dorm what made it smell horrible. There was no fresh air coming in. Besides, there is only 1 bathroom that’s literally in the same room as where you get breakfast. The bunkbeds are literally half a meter away from each other, which made it impossible to walk normally through the room.
Breakfast was ok, but sometimes they forgot to serve something and you needed to keep on asking. Location was fine, it’s in the center but at a small side street that’s just a bit more quiet, which is nice. Beds are ok, not special but ok.

CanadaStaff not there pretty much all the time so difficult to have assistance if problems, heard the same when people were coming in to check in and there was no one. Only 1 bathroom shared for everyone - one morning i had to wait 40 min to pee because someone was taking his shower. Not well isolated (when the streeets are noisy). Not flexible about breakfast even for 15 min (i had a really big emergency). Cant use the kitchen even if our stuff are in the fridge - they lock the door, can not even refill our water.

United KingdomSlow, chaotic check in process. We paid extra for the spa room but the photos for it are confusing and refer to different rooms. Dirty bath, sheets, towel. We complained the next day and got 70.000 pesos back from the 280.000 we paid but overall still feel it was very poor value for money compared to the many hotels we've stayed at in Colombia.
Great location. Nice staff, especially David. Nice view from the room.

RomaniaI have to be honest here. The photographer they've hired must have been a world-class one because the reality is totally different than the pictures here. It was one of the smallest, darkest, and dampest rooms i have ever stayed in. The bathroom was so small that i couldn't stay on the toilet right. Also, I couldn't open my window to clear some of the dampness because right there is the sidewalk. All of my clothes, even my backpack, smelled funny after because of the dampness. Furthermore, the noise is almost unbearable. Exactly near the hotel is a coffee place that opens every morning with loud music. It is located on a busy street, so the noise is high from 7 AM until late after midnight.
The staff is polite and helpful, the price is OK. But the price comes with a... price.

ColombiaThe hotel is located at a crossing of roads, with some bars and restaurants nearby. The biggest problem is that at the midnight around 1am-3am, there are many groups of drunken guys talking, laughing loudly, sound of beer bottles right outside the hostel. It felt that these people is just right next to my bed. The building is old structure with almost no sound proof. So I can not sleep the whole time until they left, but they came one group by another group. The hotel staff definitely knew about it because they can also hear them. But it seems that they get used to it, and just let it happen. Even I tried to contact the hotel reception by WhatsApp but no answer. There is no telephone in the room. As a guest, I can not put on clothes and confront those drunken guys, since I also do not speak Spanish. I don’t blame those drunken people, but I am not happy about Hotel’s attitude that they knew it but just didn’t do anything about it, such as they can call the police. It is the first time that I gave negative comments to many hotels that I lived, but I expect to have some sleep to have a good mood.
The Hotel’s facility is OK, and the architect style is good, and the cleanliness is quite good.

United KingdomOur room got cleaned after our first night but not after that (stayed for 4 nights), unsure if it should’ve been daily..no bin in the bedroom which was needed as we didn’t have an en-suite. Had to ask for new towels every day as ours didn’t dry. The room was very damp with the walls and floor actually being wet to touch and the artwork having mold on them this is probably due to there being no window just a small hatch that opens into the corridor (there’s also no aircon or fan). Our clothes became wet by the 3rd day and the management were not very helpful, David sorted us a room change however management kept offering things that weren’t feasible (offered breakfast although aware we were leaving before this, and to wash/dry our clothes however they were aware they couldn’t be tumble dried and wouldn’t have time to air dry by the next morning when we were leaving). A lot of building work going on which you can hear from the bedrooms. The cleaner had a very bad attitude when we had to ask for another toilet roll, there was none at 6am and despite being away for the day we came back to still not having any at 5:30pm (luckily we had our own for when there was none provided)
David was so welcoming and very helpful with our concerns and questions. Location is close to restaurants and shops

United Kingdom- pounding music until 12 every night and 2am at the weekend felt like we were inside a nightclub and impossible to sleep. the staff told us this was only during the weekend (so we decided to stay Sunday and Monday as well), but this was false and the problem persisted and it was impossible to sleep until it stopped. - disgusting fly infestation problem. every time we re-entered our room there were 100+ more dead flies on our bed, inside our luggage, all over the floor, in the shower etc. I showed the cleaner and she swept them up…not a long term solution. she also said they were attempting to fumigate the room, so not sure why we were allowed to rent it when the problem was already known. they wanted to charge us 70,000 more to change room. - breakfast starts after all of the tours in the area so we missed it… - breakfast was poor quality. no milk available for coffee. do not pay for breakfast here as there are many nice places locally. - front door to the property looks like it has been broken in to. their solution is to put a chair in front of it at night that makes a loud noise when guests enter…not sure the purpose as no one would check who has entered anyway. - dangerous walkway up the stairs to the roof terrace. my partner hit his head really badly because the walk way is obstructed by a metal beam that you do not see when walking up. easily could be a major accident there. - we were charged a much higher rate for the same room when we wanted to extend a night (when we were told that the music and fly problems would not persist…) with no explanation. - after staying there, we have seen that it is listed online as a ‘love hotel’ which we had no idea about beforehand. this explains the people who were there on Friday and Saturday night for a few hours and leaving. the girls looked very young. - while the staff were friendly enough, disappointed that the staff knew in advance about all of the problems but did not warn us or rectify them properly.
It was in town which was convenient in the day…but not at night because we were basically inside a nightclub garden that was 10m from our window.
