How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

1. I booked 1 bed in 4 mixed room. Upon arriving, they give me a bed in an open room divided into 2 sections. My section had 10 beds. The room in total had 20 beds. This is far from 1 bed in 4 mixed room. Please clarify on the website or upon check in what the room actually is as this was misleading and very disappointing. 2. Speaking of this large room of 20 beds, there were only 3 bathrooms for the entire upper level of hostel. Which means 45+ people were waiting on 3 bathrooms. If that wasn't bad enough, one of the bathrooms was consistently clogged or not working. This led to needing to wait for a bathroom almost every time. If you want to take a shower, good luck with the bathroom wait time. 3. The small pool in open first floor area was not working the whole time. Misleading again. 4. Staff was far from helpful or warm... something you would think is a necessity at a place of hospitality. 5. They were redoing the entrance's flooring which led to back stairway access to lobby not being accessible. But they do not tell you that this is going on, or even bother to put a sign on back stairway. 6. I had to return to check in to ask for a towel - a basic check in item.
The location is very central in Historic Center and near everything. The wifi was good.

With as many people that move through there, they need to clean the dorm area much more, the toilets didn't flush every time, the noise went into the early morning, the air conditioning was only on part of the time, the sheets were torn and didn't fit the bed correctly

There were some things that were lacking. The stained sheets weren't the most appeasing thing to see. My bed was in the room right next to one of the loudest streets in Cartagena. I would suggest if you want good sleep with silence, ask for a bed that is away from the street. Cold showers (although very common in South America). Lastly the service was dismal. The attendants at the front desk did the bare minimum possible to assist (I speak Spanish pretty fluently).
I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately it fell a bit short. From the pictures online it looked really neat. There are some good parts of it: the location is absolutely perfect in the historical area and the bed areas are air-conditioned. They also give you a free beer with their nearby pub, which is cool.

it was not clean - lots of hair in the showes, even on our “fresh” sheets, so we asked if they can be replaced. no atmosphere, also lots of things need maintainance, such as shutters and toilets - the seat broke and the toilet paper ran out.

Front desk staff, no glass on windows, dust, no elevator, no reliable Internet, not enough towels, no hair dryer, giant room key, too dark, it feels more like a shelter than a hostel

There are only 2 Bathrooms with shower for more than 20 beds.

The room was ok, but the dorm had 30 beds (including double beds), so about 40 people in total. They have 3 bathrooms, but 1 never opens, so really only 2 for 40 people. I had to wait everytime I had to go to the bathroom. (Also 40 people in one form causes a lot of noise during the night). The bathroom was also disgusting. We saw small black worms in the shower. When we went for breakfast at 9:45 (breakfast 8-10) we were told that she was already cleaning up so we couldn't have breakfast. After complaining at the reception we got breakfast, but since we finished eating after 10, we had to clean our own plates. While they say that you get a towel, soap and a free beer, you have to specifically ask for everything at the reception. Very unhelpful and unaccommodating staff.
The room was pretty private, even though it was in a dorm.
