Bolita is an amazing place. First off, the trails are worth the trip if you like to hike. In my experience it is rare to find great trails that you don’t need a guide to hike in OSA. I stayed in a small room and the set up was comfortable considering how far up in the jungle I was. The staff was friendly and cooking and bathing facilities were solid. A great deck above the cooking area was great for yoga or just taking a break during the afternoon heat. This place is natural or clothing-optional so be prepared. I was there twice over a month period, one time there was a fair amount of nudity, the next not at all. Really depends on who is there. Can’t recommend enough if you want remote with great hiking.

    There was nothing to dislike

Bolita is an absolute slice of paradise !!! Ron the owner and the staff are friendly, helpful and really want you to be as comfortable as possible. If you want to see wildlife , then this is the place to visit. The well signed trails are great some leading to waterfalls and to unbelievable views over breathtaking landscapes. The rooms are simple but effective in immersing you into nature.

You should be aware going in that you are almost entirely outdoors and exposed to bugs, rain, and humidity. Naturally, the beds and furnishings and whatnot are a bit dirty. The wifi worked for sending messages but not a lot else. The hike up is not for the faint of heart! Still a great place to stay but it's not an experience for everyone!

Bolita is a really cool and unique place to stay. I loved the gorgeous location right in the forest and the many beautiful trails, swimming holes, waterfalls, plants, and views on the property. The hostel owners, volunteers, and guests were friendly, interesting, and relaxed, and there is thought put into maintaining a polite and ethical presence between hostel goers and locals. There are hammocks and spaces to do yoga and hang out, and the bugnets around the beds were great!

Amazing location, truly unique experience (although I would still recommend doing a corcovado tour - the hikes are great - but of course you do not see as much as on a specific tour). However, you cannot be afraid of Spiders/Snakes/Insects or other Animals

We stayed for over a week and saw an incredible amount of wildlife. Every day we saw something different and amazing whether it was monkeys, a sloth, invertebrates, birds (including toucans, swallow tailed kites, hummingbirds, trogons, woodpeckers, parrots, puffbirds, cuckoos), snakes, frogs. Ron, Val and the team do a really great job of maintaining the hostel and the trails. For such a remote location right in the middle of the rainforest the hostel is extremely well equipped including the kitchen, it looks picturesque, and is comfortable. I highly recommend staying here if you want to be truly immersed in nature and see a lot of wildlife.

No hardened boxes that could protect food from wild animals such as giant rats. One needs to bring something to hang stuff up. The double bed could be a bit longer so that my feet fit in.

The surrounding forest with great (well marked) hiking trails into the jungle. There are rubber boots up to european size 44, which may be too small. We almost stumbled upon a dangerous snake and highly advise the use of rubber boots.

The trail up with bags felt longer than 1.5 km, especially with the river crossing, so don't be late for the 5pm latest check-in!

The location in the middle of the forest was amazing. The view from everywhere (room, bathroom, toilets, kitchen, living room) was just perfect. The room was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped. Access to the trails. Very friendly and accommodating staff.

This is the place where you can immerse yourself in the Osa Peninsula rainforest, walk trails at the border of Corcovado NP, in a primary forest. It is well organized, with very friendly, helpful, reliable people running the place. They provide drinking water, gas stove, charging, internet, showers; you bring your own food and walk a short trail with you backpack and cross a river; you should be moderately physically fit and accustomed to backpacker travel. The experience you will get is unmatched, it is not a crowded area, you see real wilderness, animals and birds included (however, remember - it is not a zoo). Strongly recommended.

This is constructive feedback; the volunteers- we saw only 2 volunteers really working and engaging with paying customers, seemed like a lot of lounging around in hammocks and scowling at people for using bandwidth on the WiFi, 1 of them even kept turning WiFi off and on to disconnect everyone. Drying cloths in kitchen needed chaging out more regularly; no point washing up to dry on dirty cloths. Greeting involved show round of kitchen and room but no info about the trails, what to see on them etc. Didn't even know there was charging facilities until we found it by accident. Volunteers also setting a bad example and hiking trails in flip-flops. 2 sightings of a snake on the same trail but no white board or anything to inform guests so they were aware. Guests asked to be back by 4pm as its pitch black (amazing for watching the stars) at 6pm but volunteers are not counting people in and out so they would have no idea if anyone was missing.

Really enjoyed being submerged in the deep jungle and enjoyed hiking all the trails. Fantastic forest bathing. Our favourite trail was the valley trail for views but to see wildlife you need to go deeper on Bonan (we saw monkey, toucan and butterflies). From the hostel you can sit and enjoy hummingbirds from your room or the social platform. Enough showers, toilets and kitchen facilities that you never have to queue Ron and some of the volunteers were nice Excellent value for money for the location and we enjoyed the magical stay overall

Jungle hostel WAY up the mountain
    • Leisure trip
    • Solo traveller
    • Deluxe Double Room

Realize that the hostel is WAY up the mountain, accessed via network of trails. They've made it easier by gradual grading of pathways, but it's a trek and physically challenging if you aren't used to hiking. The pathways are narrow and you can fall down into deep canyons if you don't pay attention...take it slow and take water to stay hydrated. I loved being naked my entire stay, but I was the only naked person most of it (I didn't mind, but surprised a bit).

Beautiful surroundings in the jungle! Views and being immersed in nature is nice...like an upgraded campgrounds, the facilities are basic and yet well-done and cared for, with new things being upgraded and added. My room was open at the back wall, so you really are camping in nature. Ron was great and he loves this place. The "staff" were volunteers, but he inspires high standards toward guests...very impressive. I met lots of nice travellers.

The trek up is rewarding. If you are not physically fit you can still enjoy it, just take rest breaks on the way up. The bathrooms and showers were the cleanest I’ve seen and have fantastic views to boot. The kitchen is well equipped and clean. The hammocks offer a comfy break. The trails are well marked. I’m directionally challenged and I had no problems. I thought it simply great.

Not a dislike, just some advice. I stayed for 5 nights and it's difficult to take more than 3-4 days worth of food with you up to the hostel. So, for more than 3 nights, expect that you'll need to hike down to the village for more food (especially fresh veggies).

The trails are amazing. I really enjoyed my time with both the volunteers and fellow guests. This is a place that attracts interesting people. I spent 5 peaceful nights here. Having stayed on a previous occasion, this visit further taught me to keep my mind and senses open both on the trails and at the hostel. The best experience is to be had by reducing any preconceived expectations. Such a beautiful natural place.
