Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe smell of the bathroom, the noise from outside, the hallyways and the coconuts falling onto the tin roof in the bedroom near the kitchen
We stayed 4 days in total and had breakfast once because we had tours. The first room smelled a little bad because of the toilet system but that was through no fault of the owners. The window looked outward to the stret and was noisy unfortunately. Teh the second room was really great, clean and no smell, but coconuts kept falling onto the tin roof of the kitchen and scaring us and waking us all night sadly. Great place though for the price. Another great place a bit cheaper up the road too. The host gave us a bag of fruit if we left early which was nice, but I had to ask for it, it was not offered.

CanadaThe taxi driver robe me big time he charged me 10,000.00 from the hostel to the airport and this was the driver Cortez Azul ordered for me. I was told by reception it it would cost 3,000.00. I didn't like that how noisy it got at night and early morning. The kitchen need some upgrade. Especially the microwave. It is really worn out inside and not inviting for the faint at hearth. Cortez Azul is advertised as a hotel but in my opinion it's more like a hostel.
I really enjoyed my stay at this hostel. Amanda and all the other staff were friendly and accommodating to me during my six night stay and I like the free breakfast which was served each day across the street in a little café. They even did my laundry for a small fee and what a fine job Mellissa did with it. The bed was comfortable and the location is prefect! Just a few minutes drive to the airport and short walks to parks and everything else you'll need.

GermanyAccording to booking.com they offer a free shuttle service at 6:00h, 8:00h and 10:00h o'clock... but they don't. It will only set you back 4000Col, but you should keep that in mind before spending you last colones in the nearby mall. Breakfast is pretty late, so you can't enjoy what others praise as a good breakfasf, if you're leaving early. The offer no "snack packs", so you'll have to plan ahead or eat at the aiport.
Only a couple of minutes by cab (4000Col) to the nearby aiport. Beds are made out of pallets (those wodden things which you can transport with a forklift), but at least my bed was comfortable enough to get a short night of sleep before leaving in the morning. Place was clean as it could probably get. The mall is nearby which offers some food options and a cinema (they usually show original versions with es subtitles)... if you have some time to kill...

United KingdomIt would be useful to have a front door key so that you are not locked out when no one at reception.
Our flight landed just after midnight. The accommodation gave us excellent directions. They told us to take an Orange official taxi , the cost and distance to the hotel. It cost 7$. Would be cheaper if paid in CRC. The taxi driver waited until the hotel door was unlocked and we were able to go in. Quiet hotel. Comfortable bed. Good cooking facilities. Nice seating area. Banks in town. Claro shop to buy a sim. Breakfast in cafe opposite good.

GermanyOtherwise there is nothing much to do in Alajuela/San Jose other than traveling away from it.
Great mixture between hotel and hostel with incredibly low prices even for a room for two. Breakfast included, shared kitchen and comfortable outdoor area. Perfect for when you arrive late in San Jose or have to catch an early flight. Connection to and from the airport with busses for 700C is fast and easy, taxi is 6$.

SloveniaThe room was extremely hot and humid even though we were there in the middle of the dry season. The shower was cold (the heated shower head that you normally find in Costa Rica only did not work properly here...). Also, the information when booking is incorrect and misleading in terms of the payment. One of the main reasons I chose this accommodation was that payment was only possible by prepayment with credit card, but when I was there I could only pay by cash or card, but with card I would be charged an additional 13%. Providing false and misleading information to lure in customers is fraudulent and they should therefore change this information on here immediately. The front desk also claimed that prepayment was not possible in Central America, however it was possible in some other Costarican accommodations, so they were simply lying... Also this is most certainly not a hotel, but a hostel with private rooms (also the setup is very hostel-like..), so the name of the facility is also extremely misleading - but i knew that and accepted it upfront unlike the false information regarding payment....
The house cat was really nice and the property was in central Alajuela, breakfast was also nice but there werent a lot of options though.

CanadaI only wanted to book a hotel with parking and filtered it as such. There was no parking on site. We also didn’t have a private bathroom which is what I booked. The bed was also not comfortable, very hot as no AC or windows in room. Ok value but not worth it overall - better to spend a bit more for comfort.
The staff was really nice. Very easy to check in and out.

Czech RepublicThe walls basically do not exist. We didn’t sleep at all, because it was way too noisy and the people in the room next to us were having romance time literally the whole night. So unless you don’t mind listening to what other people are doing - to the detail - I don’t recommend staying here. 😅
