How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Stayed at Pirates for 2 nights and the stay was comfortable. The area is convenient for travelers without a car as there are restaurants and convenient stores nearby. Laundry service is also available. The staff were very friendly and made us feel at home . Thomas and Nicholas are good company and we enjoyed exchanging stories amongst each other .

Super close to walk to the beach. The Dad and Son couple made the hostel a beautiful creative place. The rooms have air conditioning.

Everything was great but do keep in mind that it is a hostel and therefore your expectations should not be set at a normal hotel type room.
The host was very helpful in giving us guidance to plan our time in Uvita and giving us local tips. He made us feel very welcome and he was very accomodating.

During our stay, the hot water and AC stopped working a few times, but other than that everything was good
Super friendly and helpful staff, close to the beach and supermarket, room was nicely decorated

The owner could take better care of the place and fulfil his role as owner/reception better. More care should also be given to the kitchen, which was not very clean. It's also a responsibility of the guests to do their part, but in the end someone has the final responsibility and that's the owner
Nice hostel with enough facilities, conveniently located next to a big supermarket and with the beach nearby.

Small rooms, and it needs a bit of a clean.
Great location, 5 minutes from the beach. Good AC, nice common area, the host gave us some good information about the surroundings and the tides.

Hygiene could be better: the room was cleaned (we saw the cleaning lady leaving) but we found the bathroom not very clean. There was hair in the shower from the previous guests. Also the kitchen wasn't super neat, so we didn't cook there. The host seemed to drink beer all the time. We were not bothered by that, but did question his professionalism.
We loved that the room had A/C. The balance for price/quality is okay. The location was perfect. It is nearby the beach. Normally the beach entrance is not free, but we got in on a rainy day and didn't have to pay anyways so that was nice.

Kitchen did not have a stove, and was pretty dirty overall. Facilities were mostly decent.
Very neatly looking room, with AC. Clean shower and bathroom facilities. Good location, only 5 min from beach entry.

The kitchen needs some renovation. There is only one stove top for cooking, which makes it complicated when many people want to cook. The fridge needs some cleaning too. Also the mattress was quite old and you can feel the springs.
The room was really nice, and the aircon really helps to sleep. They have a really beautiful and big balcony. The staff (Nic) is super friendly and helpful.

It's great located and we'could leave our car parked there directly next to the hostel. The host was super friendly! Everything was clean :).

- 3 minutes walking distance from beach and nationalpark - Tom was absolutely friendly and helped wherever he could - supermarket just across the street with everything you need - kitchen with all required equipment - very silent and calm at night

The hostel is hard to find, there is not sign outside making it visible.
Tom is a very committed owner and happy to help. The pirate style is really cool. We enjoyed to spend the evening in the rocking chair on the terrace.

it was quite a long walk to get to town/ uvita waterfalls. the kitchen could be better equipped, while it’s currently got various gadgets, it is difficult for more than 1 person to cook at the same time
rooms were very nice, clean and comfortable. hostel is well located for the beach although a bit further from the rest of town. staff were very friendly and helpful, including driving us to the bus stop in the middle of the night when there were no taxis!

- booked a room with private bathroom (but shower didn't work, had to use the neighbours outdoor shower, but was offered a reduced rate) - kitchen isn't really a working kitchen, no hob or oven to cook on, just a microwave, fridge and an electric frying pan

Nice location, near the beach/national park. Nick was friendly, and kindly dropped us at the bus station at the end of our stay.
