Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Bed were comfortable but there was no fan/ facility to overcome heat around 35 temperature on night. Therefore could not sleep properly.

GermanyThe hotel is quite shabby. Dirty bedside tables, bathroom and stained mirror in the room. It's very noisy outside. Homeless people hang out right at the entrance, be careful. There is a minimum level of comfort but nothing more.
The hotel is located on the red light street. Take this into account! But there are advantages, such as the port and cafes/entertainment facilities nearby.

HungaryThe receptionist was a bit rude. Also the room could’ve used a kettle and a shower mat, small things like that.
It was on the middle of Reeperbahn, the red light district of Hamburg. This could be either an upside or downside depending on your preferences, I found it very interesting! It was good for transport too, lots of connections. The room was clean and comfortable, check-in and -out was very smooth.

AustraliaLocation was in a very lively part of Hamburg so the noise from the street was loud. Smoking allowed in designated areas but smoke carried into rooms.
Room was clean and ensuite bathroom was clean and modern. Concierge was very welcoming and helpful.

SwedenThe room itself was not really clean. My son found a cockroach on his bed and when we move the bed to find it, we saw a lot of trash under the bed. He didn't want to sleep on his bed anymore so we let him sleep with us. The hotel fits just for quick stay.
We like the location and we got a room at the back side of the building so it was not noisy as the rooms facing the street.

NetherlandsThe room was kind of run down and the bed sheets were ripped and not clean. Next time I am in the area I would try to look for different options in the same price range.
The room is very cheap for a single room with a private bathroom in my experience, and location is very close to Reeperbahn train station. My main purpose of travel was going to Operettenhaus which was almost immediately across the road.

United KingdomNot always someone on reception so had to wait for someone to be checking in to ask for spares. Homeless people right outside the entrances so can feel a bit dodgy all the time but just keep to yourself. Beds were on wheels and kept moving, so you can't really sit up in the bed and watch TV without it moving. Sheets and towels weren't really clean but we got towels changed on the 2nd day. No floor towel for the shower or shampoo/shower gel. It was always very hot in the rooms even with the radiators off. Had the window open a lot, even when it was 2 degrees outside. Was a shock going outside after being inside. There was no real luggage storage and check out is quite early although there was nothing enforced. We had to ask the cleaners, who spoke no English, if we could leave our bags. They reluctantly let us but it didn't feel safe to do so. Bed bugs are real! It was a mix between the heat at night and bad sheets, but I couldn't stop itching from night 1. There was no alternative but to suck it up. Sheets weren't changed in the 3 nights we stayed. So be weary of this.
It was right on the Reeperbahn, so location was fantastic. Our room was overlooking the street so good views but obviously it can be noisy at night. Just don't stay on the Reeperbahn if this is an issue. I used earplugs and it was fine. It was a cheap stay - other friends stayed at a&o hostels which was probably a much better stay. But we didn't have any major issues for the 3 nights we were staying there. Just don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed. We didn't spend too much time in the hostel and if you were spending most of your time on the Reeperbahn, then it's ideal to pop back. There's not really someone on the desk all the time and it's not a massive hostel. I was a bit worried after reading the reviews but I was say it was a passable stay and did the job for a few nights. Oh apart from the bed bugs! They are very real. We asked for spare towels after the first night which wasn't a problem. McDonald's and all amenities are right on your doorstep which is a bonus.

Czech RepublicThe photos are rather misleading. The rooms are clean but shabby. It's a hostel, not a hotel. Moreover, guests are allowed to smoke in the corridors and the smoke gets into other people's rooms.
