Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsThe single room is very small. The bed can only just fit in. However, it is the most quiet room in the apartment with the most comfortable bed. If you take a hot shower, make sure not to flush the toilet and preferably during a time no other tenants use water, as it influences the pressure in the pipes and affects the steady flow of hot water. It is allowed to smoke "near an open window". A rule like this usually does not work in Egypt. Moreover, if the direction of the wind is unfavourable you end up in smoke. The common area is not (yet) cosy or comfortable. Improvement of the apartment is stiil a work in progress.
Close to the center of town within walking distance of Gomla and Carrefour supermarkets, Al Mazareta is basically an apartment where you can rent a room with shared basic facilities such as bathroom, toilet and kitchen. WiFi worked well also in the rooms. The apartment is on the third floor of a building on a side street. It means noise levels are moderate compared to other similar accommodation in Alexandria. The rooms at the rear are more quiet than rooms at the front. The latter have balconies though. The self check-in procedure turned out to work well. The front door of the building is almost always open. Make sure you can access internet or if offline ensure you have downloaded the check-in instructions. The apartment is cleaned every day. The manager can be reached through whatsapp until 10PM. The link works, as in case of need he usually reacts within a reasonable time period.

NorwayThere was strong smoke smell in the room when I arrived, and one of the walls was full of mold. Maybe some painting could make the place much better. It was also quite cold this time, so I had to put on some extra layers of clothes for the night.
It's very central. Easy to find, the owner sends all information on Whatsapp about how to find the hotel. He is very welcoming and provides all info needed. The room is good for a night or two if you spend your time out of home anyways.

SlovakiaEvery year I am accommodated in dozens of hotels through Booking. What I saw and experienced in this hotel was We were looking for accommodation for almost 40 minutes. We waited another 45 minutes in front of closed doors for the owner to arrive - there is no reception. The room, the "kitchen" and the toilet are an unbelievable mess. Everything was more like a warehouse. There were rolls of carpets everywhere, the balcony doors in the room could not be closed, the bed mattresses were rolled over and on wooden slats. Everything was one horror. We shortened the stay to two nights to one night. We asked the owner for a refund of the fee for one night, which he refused. I believe that the Booking app should not offer such accommodation under any circumstances. There we understood why the owner requires payment for accommodation in advance.
There was nothing in this accommodation that could be rated at least 1. Why is there no grade 0 in the rating?

United KingdomThe check-in is self check-in and extremely difficult.. The flat is on the 3rd floor with almost the 6th floor of the amount of stairs. In the afternoon, when I went up, I didn't come down till tomorrow morning for check out, and I went to another accommodation with more comfort.
Whole flat was vacant. Internet was very good.

ItalyIt's a big house with rented rooms, totally abandoned, without any maintenance, very dirty, with objects left in the corridor, thrown in some rooms, without any criteria and/or order, full of dust and dirt. Furthermore, there was not even a dustbin in the whole house, including my room and even the bathroom. Because of the dirt I never used the bathroom to avoid get infections and because of the lack of hot water I had to take a cold shower...in January!!! On my arrival I found neither toilet paper nor hot water: when I pointed this out to the owner (whom I never met), very arrogantly and very annoyed he accused me of complaining, while I had to explain to him that toilet paper and water had been paid for by me in the reservation and that therefore he had to make me find them on my arrival. The kitchen was dirty. In fact I had to self check-in because the owner never came to assist me or was helpful and I do not recommend self check-in to anyone because, if like me you need assistance or have a problem, you are not assisted in any way but left to your own . Also there was no electrical outlet in the room and the only electrical outlet in the house was in the common corridor, so I could not leave my mobile phone in the room to charge. The next day, after checking out, I received an email from booking that the owner had informed booking that I didn't show up nor I've checked in.. When I wrote to him asking for an explanation, he explained that it had been a manager's mistake. Later, long after I had already left the room, the owner phoned me and, still in the same arrogant and annoyed tone, accused me of having blocked the toilet flush: it was a very annoying thing that disturbed me while I was trying to visit Alexandria. I explained to him that, because of the dirt in the toilet and not only that, I had not used it at all.
