The owner will arrange boat transfers to and from the island at any time. The beef in the restaurant is also very delicious. The owner is very nice and enthusiastic. It is a very satisfying stay.

I can't say enough about our stay here. Elephantine Island is an eye-opener for those who come from cities of sidewalks and roads. This island is all dirt so be ready for that. A whole different and amazing people live on the island. Our place was great. The two hosts are so friendly, very easy to work with. They helped us with all our questions and needs. They helped book our tour to Abu Simbel. They helped us get a boat driver to the tombs across the water where after we dove and swam in the Nile. The roof gives you a grand view of the Nile and Aswan. A clean place and a great deal.

The location is great. It is on the island of Elephantine which is very calme compared with the noisy city part. The view at the terrace is unbeatable, especially during sunrise and sunset time. The host is super kind and accommodating. The team helps to arrange Felucca trip and Nubian Village trip at a fair price. Wifi and hot water worked very well. The room is spacious and clean.

The night was not restful; the beds need to be replaced. The breakfast prices were very expensive compared to the average. We had to buy groceries and eat in our room.

The Basmatic Nubian house offers a UNIQUE experience in Aswan. While the actual Aswan city has a very similar lifestyle to El Cairo, the Elephantine island offers a relaxed, Nubian atmosphere with outstanding sunsets. The staff at the house, specially Mahmoud, were very easy-going, cultured and incredibly welcoming. Staying at the Elephantine island is a must in Aswan!

Basmatic Nubian Guest House was the highligt of my stay not just in Aswan, but in whole Egypt. The people there are sooo nice and always wiling to help. The food is amazing and the rooms are very clean. Do yourself a a favor and come to this beautiful place for a day or two.

Nothing, all perfect

Very large room with a small kitchen and a fridge and a good bathroom with hot water, food in the rooftop terrace is home-made and superb (even though prices in western currency are a bit higher than Egyptian standards, but it’s worth every bite). Staff super friendly and kind, they also arrange daytrips, just don’t forget to bargain a bit, you’re always in Egypt…

Location!! Beautiful view, the one that you want when in Assouan. Large room, "studio like": 2 single beds, one sofa, bathroom and a kitchen! Welcoming terrace (2 levels) with an enjoyable view of the dunes and the sea. Restaurant/bar on site is a good option (though we did not enjoy this facility neither for dinner nor for the optional breakfast). Very easy to organize activities through the guesthouse - we chose a long private boat tour around the Elephantine Island: certainly a positive experience with a nice captain.

The staff were cleaning blood off the front step when we arrived. We had just had a very bad experience with our previous accommodation so we were already a little shaken up. it was a little concerning without knowing what had occurred. Our stay was pleasant thankfully.

It’s a little hard to get to on your own, but being more remote made it feel like an escape from the noise of Aswan – so this was actually a positive for us. Tip: To get to the property, you have to take the south Elephantine Island/Koti side public ferry (5 mins, EGP 10 each way), and then a short walk across the island through the unpaved village, which is a bit of a maze. It was always a charming and peaceful stroll, even at night, and didn’t bother us. Mohammed can arrange boat transfers to Aswan as well, which are direct to and from the property (also takes about 5-10 minutes). Oh, and make sure you turn on the water heater switch before you shower!

We had a wonderful time at the Basmatic Guest House. It’s a tranquil and rustic property on the south of Elephantine Island, overlooking the West Bank of the Nile. A very peaceful location, and also an easy walk to the Elephantine archaeological site & Aswan Museum on the island. The rooftop restaurant had lovely views of the Nile, making it feel like a true oasis. But what makes it special is the manager – Mohammed took such great care of us and organised our trips to Philae (with one of his cousins, also called Mohammed, who was brilliant), Abu Simbel, and a 2-night Nile River Cruise for when we left Aswan. Wonderful hospitality and a very welcoming place!

We stayed at Basmatic Nubian Guest House for two nights. The room, with its wonderful view, was in a quiet area, comfortable, and spacious.
The owner kindly arranged a free transfer from the harbor to the island with our luggage, which was much appreciated. Although the showerhead occasionally didn’t work properly, we had an amazing stay in Aswan. If we return to the city, we will definitely stay here again. Thank you so much!
