How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

we have no complaints
I liked the supportiveness of the staff whose English was excellent. It was safe, a lovely historic building, we were able to meet people in the communal breakfast area and overall it was good value for money! oh and a walk away from the Egyptian museum in tahrir square.

Everything is ok. Nice staff, good location, good breakfast. Only the pillow is too hard and big so not comfortable for the neck and no carpet to avoid slipping after the shower.

Great budget hostel with very friendly staff. No additional charges for checking in after 10pm. Would happily stay again!

Everything was perfect.
Hi, I loved my stay in Australian Hostel. First of all the staff was so friendly and nice people. Secondly, it is in the center of Cairo and close to everywhere. It was really so fun to stay in that hostel , whenever ı come to Cairo , I will make sure that I am staying in that hostel. And Especially ı want to thank Hazem and Mahmud.

Smart once up through the block! There is a lift. Handy for restaurants including mc Donald's. Not too noisy despite entrance on busy road and backing onto an open air restaurant street. Bit of atmosphere there. Pleasant staff on desk. Clean with kitchen smart lounge etc to relax. Flexible to your plans and can help with tours etc. Curtains round beds.

Everything is good
The Hostel is clean and comfortable. The location was perfectly close to many restaurants and 10 minutes walking from the Egyptian museum. The receptionists were very helpful and welcoming, especially Hazim! 🤝❤️

Perfect place to enjoy Cairo. Staffs are so friendly and nice. They speak English perfectly. Location was so wonderful. The hotel is in the center of old Cairo so you can move to anywhere so easily by walk and by metro. Many restaurants and dessert cafes are near by hotel, just few minutes by walk. Room was very clean and quiet so I could sleep very well. Hot water was also good. Egyptian style breakfast was so nice too. I enjoyed it very much. Strongly recommend this place to you.

Water in the room would have been helpful.
Superb location in Cairo for the main sights. Helpful happy friendly staff. Very clean . Simple but nice breakfast. Good value .

Everything was good!
The Hostel is clean and comfortable. The location was perfect close to many bars and restaurants and 10 minutes walking from the Egyptian museum. The receptionists were very helpful and welcoming, especially Hazim!

Very good experience at this hostel. Very clean, good facilities, well located and the best service from the guys at the reception. Special thanks to Mahmoud, a very nice guy always willing to help and gave really useful tips and advice

Always a great stay at Australian Hostel. Super clean, comfortable and the best staff. Easy to meet people if you’re travelling solo. Beds in the dorm room are private and the curtains block out the light really well.

This hotel really charmed us. We were warmly welcomed. The staff is very helpful. They do their best to help you and inform you. The rooms are large, clean and the bedding is excellent. The hotel is very well located. It's downtown. It is a ten minute walk from Tahrir Square (the most important square in Cairo where the great Egyptian museum is located). From the hotel, to go to the pyramids, it’s easy. The neighborhood is nice (there are plenty of stores, restaurants) and yet, the rooms are quiet. The breakfast is very good.

Staff was nice. Breakfast was included in the price and was also nice. AC in the room was a must, since the December nights were quite cold! The hostel had a nice vibe, and during breakfast we met some interesting people. The price was fair for what was offered.

Nothing at all!
This hostel has far exceeded my expectations. With Two young children to Cairo, safety ahas been our priority one followed by cleanliness and convenience. Australian hostel ticked all the boxes. Lovely staff, good breakfast, convenient location and very good price for value! Highest recommendation of all our stays in Egypt! Just go for it! Wonderful place!
