Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaThere is nothing I did not like. Of course, if you offered single room, I would have loved it.
I loved the cleanliness of the properly. The security as well as the great location. I especially loved the caring of Sebastian who did all he could do to add another night to my stay at your property and the excellent customer service he did to tell me all about the property and the entertainment available. I have stayed in many hostels around the world, and to be honest, this is one of the best properties I have stayed in. I would highly recommend your property to single travellers. Even the breakfast is one of the best value for your money. Congratulations!

GermanyToilette and showers are located inside your room. It wasn't a problem for me, but you have to mind this fact. Also, La Troupe Hostel doesn't have a kitchen where guests can cook and store their own food, like in most hostels. Not a big deal but you should know it. You can bring food from outside and eat in the common space, by the way.
Good located, close (5 minutes) to Atocha train station (where there is also a bus direct to the Airport). Near to Retiro Park and metro stations such as Estacion del Arte (Linea 1) or Palos de la Frontera (Linea 3). Staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms are relatively clean and comfortable. Every bed has a socket, a nightlight and (very important!!! in a hostel) a curtain. The hostel has also a laundry room (around €3 for washing and €3 for drying). Connected to the reception there is a bar/restaurant where you can have breakfast (if not included in your package you have to pay €7) with a quite complete buffet (caffé, croissant, eggs, yogurt, fruits, toast). The bar offers hostel guests a discount for drinks/lunch/dinner. Madrid offers a lot in terms of eating outside, but this is a safe option if you are in a hurry. There's a happy hour for cocktails as well.

AustraliaThe shower had a pretty odd smell and the temperature would go from boiling hot to mild every 30 seconds.
The curtains on the bed made it a much more pleasant and comfortable to sleep. Great location, too! About a 20 minute walk from all the main attractions.

United Kingdom- no kitchen is given for you to cook. - locker is pricey and you have to put your large luggage outside. The drawer is rather small and I had to put the luggage outside. You need to purchase €4 for the lock so I recommend bringing two big locks in case.
- the room and the bathroom are clean and hygienic. The shampoo and the body wash are provided. The curtain is provided with privacy. - the staff member are available and friendly and they can speak English well. - the laundry is available though not as much as you expected. - though the bed I stayed is upper floor, they have handle for you to climb comfortably. You also don’t have to be worried about your stuff because the bottom of the bed is covered with wooden block.

Overall, it was really a nice place to stay. The place is modern, high security and got a lot of lifts. The staffs are friendly and helpful! This is the best hostel I have been to as a solo traveller. The food was lovely too. Place is clean and smells nice. This is a great place to relax after roaming around.

New ZealandGuests have to pay to keep bags prior to check in and after checkout, in storage lockers.
Great location, friendly staff and a cafe / restaurant on site with discounts for hostel guests. The double room is very large and has a wonderful view of the area from the many windows. They organise a meet & greet with a free drink for your first night which is great for meeting other new guests, and this leads into the pub crawl (every night!). The hostel feels very clean, modern and well maintained.

SpainBalcony doors couldnt open very far so room was boiling hot, fire alarm went off at 7am and the poor staff hadnt been shown how to turn it off. Its located at a very noisy intersection. As great as the hostel was I still think its slightly overpriced for what you get.
Fantastic hostel, very clean, nice facilities, friendly staff, brilliant waterfall shower. Super close to atocha station and retiro park.

CroatiaIt is really close to the Atocha train station, so if you are in transit this is the perfect option in my opinion. Great value for money! The rooms are neat and clean. The staff is really friendly and they organize meet and greets, night outs and more, which is good to get to know likeminded people if you came alone.

United StatesI opted out of the breakfast, as I have a special diet and eat super healthy, but the attached. cafe itself was great for a coffee or to hang out or work a bit if needed. The prices to store luggage were quite expensive, especially considering it's only for 12 hours, but you only need it if it's the day of check out and you want to run around town a bit, though I think it could still be made more affordable for guests. And the music in the lounge area downstairs was super loud, so hard to have conversations or read but the upstairs volume was ok and you could use the outside area if you preferred quiet to read.
I was pleasantly surprised at how great this place was, especially after having some bad experiences at other hostels in Madrid. The staff was very welcoming, friendly, spoke multiple languages (including English), the rooms were very clean, the common spaces were great, especially the outdoor nook which had a beautiful design. It's located right across from Atocha station, which was perfect for me to catch the high speed train.

BelgiumThey have secure lockers for luggage, but you have to pay for them. Prices depends on the size of your luggage and the amount of time you need the locker. The station neighbourhood isn't the prettiest
I stayed here for one night, so I could sleep in a bit before catching the train to Barcelona. I stayed in a 4 bed all female dorm and the room was very spacious and clean. Very close to la Reina Sofia Museum Breakfast buffet in the morning was nice and not too expensive

United StatesStayed 2 nights and was very comfortable. Eve though on a main street junction, it was very quiet. Room was 4 bunk type and was small but this is typical of hostels which are targeted towards light travelers and backpackers. Cafe was good as was the breakfast. Everything was clean and the staff were always available and helpful. There is a basement lounge with amenities but did not get to check it out as we had limited time. All bunks had personal lights/screen and charging outlets. The best part was that the Madrid main railway station is literally a 5 minute walk
