Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United Statesclean room and nice shower In the am there was a knock on the door - possibly we thouht the cleaning lady - we were not dressed and told her we need 5 minutes . In few more minutes there was another knock and screams "madam madam i am calling the police your infomratin is all wrong i am calling the manager" I went quickly downstairs to find out what was the issue as thia hotel policy was to not accept payment before the booking but after the check in -noone was at the reception when we arrived so credit cards were not exchanged. The screaming over obtaining the card were insane - beyond stressful. I was providingthe card as per their policy , my husband was still in the room but still the receptionist was screaming at me that my information was missing and that she will be calling the police. I have no words to explain the stress I felt over the police being called in a foreighn country as I was being accused of some unsavory activity. I was following their own policy of collecting the credit card infomration later. They were not at their post as we arrived to give the credit card! Iwish I had the time to wait for hte police to arrvie - but I was also in a shock being treated this way by any individual. She kept calling me madam while screaming at me and not letting me figure out what is her problem and what can i do to help....This would be remembered as number 1 unpleasant ways to wake up in a hotel.

GermanyA bit old style (but authentic), smell from the restaurant does not go away during night and you can smell it on the hallway. Not a problem in rooms

DenmarkNothing.
We had a room at the first floor, 'altmodisch' style, but nice and clean with all facilities. A little overpriced, probably due to the location in the middle of the Alsace wine area. We had a great dinner with the local alsace wine in the restaurant. You can have breakfast, but we did not. The village is very nice with the typical half-timbered houses. You do not have to go into Colmar to see this, take a slow trip along the wine-route instead 😉

IndiaThe room had a musty smell. The beds were really bad and uncomfortable - it just sunk in. We informed the staff about it and they said they will check it but nothing changed. There was no water in the room (for the price we are paying, water bottles should have been kept). The reception is closed for several hours during the day, which we found out only after reaching. So we could not checkin as soon as we arrived and had to wait for the staff to come in. The bed situation was terrible - we asked for a double bed and we got a room with twin beds pushed in together. These beds have wheels and keep moving the ENTIRE time you are sleeping on it. The mattress sinking in the middle was very uncomfortable and I wanted to check if it can be flipped over, but turns out that the bed frame itself was broken in the middle. The quality was very poor. The floors are carpeted but it felt very dusty and the room itself had a very musty smell. Bathroom was huge but improperly laid out so shower area was really tiny. Toilet paper was like sandpaper. There was none of the basic amenities in the room. We have come to expect these as standard common items - tea, coffee, kettle, mugs, spoons, sugar, etc. especially since the reception is not open all day long (very few hours in the day), and the dining area is locked after breakfast, there is no way of getting hot water if you want. There is no restaurant in this hotel. Or in this village (apart from one). You have to go to Selestat to eat.
Staff (Amal) was very sweet and polite. Beautiful decoration in the reception and breakfast area. Champagne during breakfast. Option to boil your own eggs.

United StatesThere wasn't a thing I would change!
The food was EXCEPTIONAL. The best breakfast we've ever had at a hotel or B&B. We loved the fact that we were given a suite (3 adult family members in two separate bedrooms was a pleasant surprise!) and that there was a lift/elevator.
