Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

PortugalThe overall cleanliness of the place wasn't great. The photos make it look much better than what it is.
This hostel was okay for the one night I spent there. The girl at the reception was very nice. I could also eat a late night dinner as they served pizza's (a bit expensive for a frozen pizza bought at the supermarket). The beds were good, they had a curtain for privacy, reading light, some wall furniture to put your phone and water bottle, and also lockers. You could also rent a pad lock with a 10 euros deposit.

SpainIt is a site that has a lot of potential. but they should take more care of cleaning, I understand that a lot of people go, but money comes in to be able to buy good sheets or cushions, they smelled old and stained under the bed was not clean and on the edges of the mattresses there was a lot of dirt

New ZealandThis was the only hostel I've ever felt unsafe in. There are no locks on any of the doors so anyone could literally just walk in from the street and get straight into the dorms - as a woman I felt pretty unsafe knowing this. There are lockers, which you need to keep literally everything in given the lack of dorm locks - but these are outside the dorms so quite inconvenient to use. The description on Booking.com. states that each dorm has a bathroom - this isn't true; there is one female and one male toilet shared between everyone in the hostel. You have to walk through the common area to get there, which again didn't feel very safe at night when there are drunk people in the common area and anyone could be coming in from the street. Location not great - quite a long walk into the main centre.
Nice communal area, well equipped kitchen and good wifi. Beds have privacy curtains, a light and a charging port.

The bathrooms could do with more regular cleaning with stronger products. I get that it's eco friendly and all but there was mould in the showers

FranceIt was mentioned on booking.com that breakfast is for 3€. But on reaching the hostel I was informed that there are various prices for breakfast starting from 3.5€ to 9€. That being said for 3.5€ I was provided only 1 coffee and a pain un chocolate instead of a proper breakfast. Such things should be mentioned clearly on the booking.com app and website .
The staff were friendly and helpful

BrazilNoisy. I had booked for 4 nights, but stayed only for one as was unable to sleep due to someone's constant loud snoring. I understand this is the downside of sharing a room.

GreeceLocation though pretty, was not the most convenient The room had a weird smell and the bed was not comfortable Common areas and rooms were pretty cold/not sufficient heating I choosed the mixed dorm which even though expemsive was the cheapest I could get. However as a female traveler I wouln't do it again. Hostel was full of weird looking men , and the mixed dorms were basically only occupied by men. In the end you pay such a high price and you don't get to feel either comfortable or safe. Wouldn't recommend
The location , even though far from the center and from any metro station was beautiful Common space was pretty nice and chill Staff was okay

United StatesThe hostel was overall not very clean (room, common space, kitchen). The bed is not very comfortable, and did not have extra blankets (provided one thin blanket). There is one (two including disabled) toilet for the whole hostel.
Staff was friendly, and was reasonably priced.

AlbaniaThe place was not clean, especially the toilets and the blankets. The first night I was covered only with linen (it was cold) and the second night I asked for blankets for me and my friend, the staff was ready to secure the blankets but they were not clean and they were smelly. I didn't feel comfortable and safe with the other people in my room, a lot of them were coughing during the night, they had poor hygiene and the room was not ventilated. Not a well-organised structure, the toilets were too far from the bedroom, so you had to go through the lobby to get there from the bedroom. The hostel didn't have separate toilets for women and men, sometimes there would be a guy entering the girl's toilet. The toilets were out of disinfectants for our whole staying. Low security, they don't give you a key or card to enter the hostel and inside the bedroom, this means anyone can enter your room or hostel and that didn't make me and my friend feel safe during our stay.
The staff was polite.

NetherlandsIt's warm in the rooms. Kept the window open as a communal decision, but the echoes of the talking outside is really loud. So the heat it was then.
Friendly staff, good vibes, lots of plants and ecological care for the world. They really want to share and care for the planet. People there were also really relaxed.
