How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Friendly owners, spotlessly clean, very comfortable bed, good shower and lots of little wee touches you just don't get in many places and it shows the owners care and are really proud of their home. I don't think I've stayed in a better guest house

From the initial welcome to us leaving, the hosts Doreen and David could have not been more helpful. Burnside is situated in beautiful countryside and sat-nav will take you the slower, scenic route. The super king-size room is so well equipped for your trip, snacks and breakfast items, fridge (complementary milk and drinking water), WiFi, Netflix etc. There were lovely little touches in the bathroom that highlight the attention to detail the owners have gone to. The bed was super comfortable and the location is just a 20 minute country walk to the centre of Oban. We would recommend the ferry to Mull but book well beforehand if you want to take your car. Foot passengers are fine and we did that. Iona is a must and such a beautiful, quiet Island. I will recommend Burnside to family and friends - thank you for a lovely stay.

A beautiful self contained room with everything you need for a perfect stay. The room is beautifully decorated and the mattress is extremely comfortable 😌 The host is friendly and very helpful, thanks for a perfect stay Doreen...already booked to come back in summer.

Everything ! Room was lovely decorated with some really nice thoughtful touches . I was having to use crutches at my time of stay and found the room so comfortable to move around in and what a comfy bed to relax on 😍 so we definitely will be back soon to explore the area once I'm more mobile again. Doreen is lovely and welcoming and Bailey is one handsome pooch !!

The only thing we didn't like was that we didn't plan to stay for longer!
We stayed for one night as a stop over before getting the ferry to Mull. Lovely, cosy flat with lots of homely touches and little extras. The flat was spotlessly clean, the bed was comfy, and the shower was nice and warm. The book containing information on the local restaurants was a nice touch, as was the extensive tea collection! Would highly recommend this as a place to stay.

Nothing, my only comment would be that it is located a little outside of Oban, the rural setting is lovely and was fine for us, but may be a little out of the way for anyone who does not want to drive.
lovely, comfortable en-suite room. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, snacks and fresh milk provided. The hosts are striving to be eco conscious by minimising single use plastic and providing eco friendly toiletries. Doreen was a welcoming and friendly host and everything was immaculate.

Really comfortable property with lots of lovely touches. Very well equipped and useful food items for cooking with and enjoying, like oil, tea and coffee, yoghurt and milk in the fridge. Owners were very helpful, responded to queries quickly and friendly.

Sadly it rained through the night and the noise of the rain on the roof kept my wife awake. There is also a trainline that runs by the side and although there aren't many trains and they didn't run after 10:00 it came by early in the morning, OK if you sleep well. It is not the easiest place to find but worth it when you get there.
Superb remote location and very helpful host. Nice rustic countryside view through window.

Very quiet and relaxing, enjoyed our stay and will be back. The room was lovely well decorated and very clean and fresh. Bed was huge and very comfortable. Doreen was lovely and welcoming and of course Baily, handsome friendly dog 🐕

Exceptional accommodation in lovely setting above Oban so quiet. Really well designed and all quality fixtures and fittings. Bed so comfy. Lovely extra touches like milk and water in the fridge, porridge pots, tablet, snacks and plentiful supply/choice of speciality tea bags. Doreen lovely, and Bailey too

What a hidden gem. It was small but had everything you needed. Beautifully appointed, excellent appliances, stunning bathroom and very comfortable bed. A lovely selection of breakfast goodies just added to the total enjoyment. Highly recommended.
