Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe property is very beautiful and the location is lovely with access to some really gorgeous hikes and stunning views. The rooms were lovely and the property overall is cosy with a fireplace and sauna and an adorable labrador. Simone and Jonathan are incredibly lovely and thoughtful and make sure that everything is available. The dinner was amazing and we also tasted some whiskey. They also provided us with a packed lunch for our hike. My favourite was the Cullen skink, crevettes and haggis! I would definitely recommend staying here.

RomaniaWe enjoyed the entire experience - everything was perfect.
In my 10 years of travelling the world, I have never felt so at home and so welcome. Jonathan and Simona (along with Ema, the Lab and Molly the Cat) made our journey through the Scottish Highlands an experience to remember and definitely left us with the feeling that we would want to come back again. The house is extremely cozy and in the evening, the fireplace creates an pleasant atmosphere reminding me of my childhood days. The breakfast is great, with many options to pick from and with fresh ingredients. Dinner is also available, along with a vast selection of Scottish Whisky and Gin - IMPORTANT: If you are going, do not miss the Cullen Skink Soup - it is the best thing ever to warm yourself after a rainy windy day in Isle of Skye. PS: Fully appreciate the support of Jonathan and Simone for helping me set up something for my girlfriend's birthday, definitely brought a happiness tear to the eye :)

United StatesThat we couldn’t stay longer!
We loved Carters Rest and look forward to returning someday! Jonathan and Simone were gracious hosts with impeccable eyes for details. The B&B was very comfortable! We enjoyed relaxing and socializing with other guests in the dining/living area. The food was spectacular as were the samplings of local whiskeys! We ate our dinners here as well as breakfast. The meals were truly gourmet and delicious. The room was comfy and the accommodations overall were 5-star! We were within an hour’s drive of many interesting attractions on the Isle of Skye!

United StatesNothing! We felt cared for and pampered.
It was an oasis on the western part of Skye. The view from the window was breathtaking. Jonathan and Simone are incredible hosts. We appreciated being able to eat dinner there and did so both nights. They are warm and gracious.

GermanyNice Bed and Breakfast with views of the sea from the shared common dining and living room. Close to Niest Point Lighthouse (great hike/views). Breakfast is in the common dining room with a few other guests (you have your own table). You have the option to have dinner there (fresh salmon and trout are wonderful). Rooms are somewhat small but are nicely done with a bathroom (very fine for a couple). Johnathon and Simone are exceptional cooks...it is like having your own personal chefs! They are super accommodating.

BelgiumNothing at all
The warm hosts make you feel welcome. The rooms are very nice and there are a lot of details in the B&B that make you feel special. The location is outside of the big tourist attractions which was for us a benefit. The breakfast is wonderful but what makes it at great experience is the option to eat in in the evening a la carte! They can make you unbelievable dishes (a star rating level). And they have a good car charger (32A/21 kW AC).

GermanyWe were at Carters Rest Guesthouse for 4 nights. Everything about our stay was just perfect: starting the day with a delicious breakfast served at the table and with the best view ever, we got precious tipps where to go to from Simone and Jonathan, we stayed in a beautiful bedroom with a supercosy bed! And at the top: what can be better to finish a wonderful hiking day with a light and healthy dinner and then go in the sauna to view the stunning sunset?! Simone and Jonathan red every wish from our eyes and fulfilled every single one :) Everything in CRG is made with a lot of love, calmness and with an eye for the beautiful things, so we felt really at home. A perfect place to relax and just enjoy. Thank you so much, Simone, Jonathan, Emma and Molly for your hospitality and the wonderful birthday surprise - we had an absolutely stunning time with you!

Our room was so peaceful with thoughtful touches and everything we needed. Magical surroundings and really nice walks straight out of the front door. Highly recommend eating dinner - best meal we have had in Scotland. Breakfast was also delicious. And Emma and Molly (the pets) also gave us a lovely welcome. We can’t wait to return!

The food was amazing - breakfast and dinner. The bedroom was relaxing and comfortable. In fact, we slept better there than at home. The view of Pool Tiel from our table with rolling hills dotted with sheep…Breakfast is outstanding… fresh ingredients with a beautiful presentation. Definitely stay in for dinner! Our room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. Not a stone unturned. Jonathan tailored his recommendations to our specific interests. CanadaThere was nothing I did not like about this place!
We came here as a stop on our honeymoon. We loved everything about this place. Jonathan and Simone were warm and friendly. The location was perfect. The food was absolutely amazing. Simone thought of everything....coffee machine in rooms, a little flashlight, wash cloths (hard to come by in Scotland!), Q-tips, a make-up mirror, teas, a mini fridge, and so much more. This was one stop on our tour of Scotland, but the next time we are on vacation, we are going to stay here for a week or 2 to just relax. It is truly the best place ever!
