Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI was wholly happy with my stay. Great room, great hosts, great experience.
What a wonderful experience!! From the start Anna & Les were very welcoming. They showed me around and to my room, they showed me the facilities and the welcome pack they had prepared for me. My room was spacious, beautifully decorated. The bed (Wow) was SO comfortable and I was lovely and warm through out the night even through the weather was starting to drop cooler (Late September). I was up very early for work and Les, was already downstair baking his bread. The bread in itself is a joy and I had a lovely chat with Les as I had my breakfast. The 2nd morning I had Anna to chat with as I had my breakfast, and I was privileged enough to seen photo's of their many adventures. They will definitely be my 1st call for accommodation the next time I'm staying in that part of the country :)

United KingdomIt was easy to get transport from the homestay in Inverkeithing to Edinburgh and there are also great places to see nearby such as Fife Walking and Dunfermline Abbey. The hosts are amazing people, kind and respectful. Their house is comfortable and quiet.

EthiopiaThere was nothing we didn't like.
Very friendly and helpful hosts. Comfortable bed and quiet room. Seating available in a lovely garden. Homemade breakfast. We felt like we were with family. The house is right on the Fife Coastal Path, which we were hiking.

United KingdomNothing!
Les and Anna were the most welcoming of hosts into what is their home. Great communication before and during my one night stay. Lovely 5-foot bed, you’ve got a good desk to work from if you need to (as I did), free WiFi and plenty of free parking. You’re sharing a bathroom with the rest of the house but you do have access to your own downstairs toilet. Inverkeithing is on your doorstep for food and, depending on the time of day, 5-minutes and you’re over the new Forth road bridge and on the doorstep for Edinburgh or the lovely “Kingdom of Fife”! I didn’t take up the offer of a breakfast but I could have - just didn’t have the time on the day. I’d happily recommend Chilowen and it’s hosts every time and I’ll use the facilities again when I need to.

GermanyThis is really just a small guest bedroom within the house. All other spaces are shared with the hosts, including the bathroom. There is therefore little privacy for either host or guest. The breakfast is not included in the price. Although it is well placed to visit Edinburgh and get to the airport, I think it was somewhat expensive for what is offered.

United KingdomThe directions on Booking.com are not great. We got lost trying to navigate these instructions so as a heads up, either get a taxi or if you are walking, head along Boreland Rd, once you are at the end you will see a Fish and Chip Shop, take the road to the right of the chip shop, Spittle field Walk (or road) and follow this road all the way round and you will see a house with a Scotland flag, this is the house.
The room is very comfortable and just what we were looking for in a 1 night stay. Anna is very friendly and welcoming and was more than happy to help us out after we had a bit of difficulty finding the property. We would definitely stay here again.
