Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesMake sure to bring a towel as it costs 3 pounds to rent one. It can also feel a little crowded in the main entrance room, but not bad.
It was an amazing location, especially if you’re doing a bus tour as they pick you up right out front. It was also easy to find. The pods were clean and they cleaned the bathrooms frequently. There was also disability access with an elevator and separate larger bathroom. It was also nice that each pod had a custom lockable cabinet.

CanadaIt got a little warm in my pod. A little fan to circulate air would likely have helped.

CanadaThe luggage room was so dirty, it was my first impression of the hostel with plastic, tissues etc on the floor. I was so relieved when I went into the room and saw it was actually clean.
Pods were super confortable, bathrooms were plenty I never any trouble showering or accessing a toilet. Location was top notch.

United StatesI didn’t realize breakfast wasn’t included until I’d already made a plate. Then the staff member asked for my ticket. The sign in the room just said the time of breakfast. If I’d known I would have gone somewhere else since there wasn’t much left.

Really unusual set-up (with the pods) but I liked it! The pods being self-contained in a dorm room means that there's more privacy than a classic hostel, but still great value for money. It felt very secure, the facilities were clean & there was enough for everyone without the classic shower-bottleneck in the morning. The rest of the hostel was buzzy & sociable, and couldn't be any closer to the Royal Mile if it tried! Also, seriously appreciated the earplugs down in reception!

United KingdomPillows could have been better in the pods!
Location was amazing, so central. Pods were clean and staff were so friendly, they couldn’t do enough for me with all questions I had asked prior to arriving and during my stay. Loved the history behind the pods and I loved the hostel activities such as Haggis Night, Free Walking Tours, Games Night etc, amazing way to meet people when travelling alone.

SpainThe lightning in the room was quite dark and there is only a usb connection inside the pod...
The location is fantastic and the pods give you more rest and privacy than other hostel beds. Great price-quality ratio!

United StatesMaybe not be stingy with towels. I was only allowed one free for a four-night stay. Realistically, backpackers can’t be expected to waste luggage space on towels.
Unbeatable location. Unbeatable price. Clean. The culture is respectful, meaning when people entered the sleep studios they were quiet. I slept great and didn’t have to shush or report anyone. Great job fostering that culture.

Code was super clean & comfortable, the staff were amazing, definitely the nicest hostel i’ve ever been to by far. Nice new facilities, plenty of privacy in the pods, lockers fit my suitcase & carryon, the in-house activities were also great; free walking tour around old town, beer, gin & whiskey tasting, games night etc.

ArgentinaMaybe the kitchen seemed bigger in the photos, but despite not being enormous and not having an oven, it has lots of utensils.
We really liked the bathrooms, they were very comfy and always clean. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. We stayed in a double private room, and we were very grateful for having a light switch right beside the bed.

United StatesPods aren't super comfortable. They look great but weren't super comfortable to sleep in and got pretty warm. I still dock only one star for this because it is a hostel after all.
Great staff, the lockers fit standard check in size baggage and then some! The building's history is cool and its location is excellent. It is literally on the Royal Mile.

NetherlandsNot much bad to say, I loved my stay If I had to nitpick: - The door to the room are loud, it was difficult for everyone to be quiet when entering and exiting the room - Both fridges were leaking
The location was simply perfect, right at the heart of old town WiFi was fast Rooms were comfortable, everything was nice, working and clean Staff was really helpful and provided info and recommendation The place has a lot of nice activities The free tour with James was really lovely

United StatesThe private rooms are a little pricey considering my option still included a shared bathroom, and there happened to be a speaker in the hall near my room playing music that was just loud enough I could occasionally hear it in my room, so I'd have preferred to have avoided that.
The location could not have been better, absolutely fantastic position right in the historic center of the Royal Mile. It was not only convenient, it was clean and well-presented, including the bathrooms (which is always a concern in hostels). Beds are nice and comfortable as well.

PolandLocation is everything! It is in the middle of the old city and close to all the main attractions. Beds are comfortable and have everything you need. Wifi is great! I would recommend to bring earplugs as the hostel is on the main street and sometimes you can hear the noise. Breakfast costs 6£ and is ok - Nothing special so if you have time I would suggest going to one of the cafes in the city. Staff is really helpful and nice. As a solo traveler I felt safe in this hostel and the atmosphere is great :)
