How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

It was bit cold in the night seems the sleeping room was not enough heated.

If they have shampoo, body soap in the bathroom, it will be perfectly.
the location very nice. it is in the central of city, very close the castle. the room very clean and comfortable. The staffs are very friendly and kindly. They give me leave my luggage at the hostel free in the early morning when I arrived and lately evening when I leaved.

Nothing. Everything was fine!
The hostel was quiet, and the pods were comfy, and provided privacy even tho it was a shared room. Didn't have any trouble sleeping. The showers were also very good. The location is perfect.

This is one of the best hostels I have stayed at - if not the best. The beds are very comfortable and have privacy which is nice when staying in a dorm. The staff was super friendly and very helpful with information and good stories about the city. I have nothing bad to say about this place. It is also very conveniently located in the city center. Main attractions and sights are within walking distance.

It was really cold, which is okay in December but a little bit of heating would have been more comfortable.

The female bathroom had only 3 toilets for the whole floor and there was always at least one dirty

The location is fantastic.Restaurants,cafes,tourist attractions,souvenir shops,pick up points for bus tours is literally reachable by few minutes walk.

Everything was perfect
This was a great experience, to stay at a former jail. We enjoyed the only night we spent there!!! The staff at reception and breakfast area is do kind and helpful. The breakfast options are delicious and the price is excellent. The location is perfect, in the middle of the beautiful old town of Edinburgh. We will definitely come back again.

Great location! Staff was very friendly, bunch of activities to do (we did a quizz and it was really nice and helpful to meet other people!) Room was nice, bathroom as well! really recommend and will come back :)

Some guests were a bit dirty especially in the shower area. But overall, it was a nice experience.
It was very nice, situated nicely in the busy street of Royal Mile. The staffs were very friendly, and it was great meeting with people from all over the globe.

the bathrooms were all clogged on the floor I was staying on which sucked and ruined my trip, since if I needed to use the bathroom, I had to go to another floor. such a hassle especially in the night. second, it was freezing in the pods for some reason but the bedding was warm so at least I could warm up with that. third, when I checked in, the front desk staff announced my personal code, which room and which pod I was staying in. there were so many people quietly sitting in the lobby who all heard. privacy for that would’ve been nice as it was my first hostel stay and I’ve heard a number of negative things before about staying in hostels so I was extremely worried someone would try to rob me or something since so many people now knew where I was staying. very concerning and I recommend they teach their staff to only show you the card with the info, unless you ask them to read it out for you. last, they don’t tell you about there being no plugs in the pod (aside from the 2 usb outlets) so I came thinking there would be outlets in my pod and as my devices are all usb-c, I had to spend more money on adaptors for my cords which would’ve been nice to know before I got there, since I have a bunch of adaptors at home I could use.
it was in a convenient location and was decently comfy for what it was. it was cheap and I enjoyed staying here
