Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe breakfast could have some more vegan options, but I understand that it’s a basic continental breakfast and I was happy enough with what I had.
Great facilities, comfy bed, with a great vibe to the whole place. Luggage storage and locker facilities are really useful. I had a great stay and will be back.

United StatesIt was a little warm in the rooms because it was a hot day in august. Some air flow would be recommended.
This was our first experience in a hostel, and I was pleasantly surprised. It was very clean, quiet, everyone was respectful of each other, and it was a lot of fun! Location was amazing!

United KingdomThe price
When I booked it felt super expensive for a hostel dorm (I’d wanted my own room but prices in Edinburgh are sky high during the festival). However, it wasn’t like a dorm room experience, it was like having my own tiny room which was clean and comfortable. I could barely hear the other dorm room guests, I had my own locker, I slept better than at home to be honest. The showers and facilities were high end and it all looked new and well maintained. I didn’t have to queue for a shower either day - it was like having the space to myself. Really pleasantly surprised and would definitely stay here again in a dorm, without worrying about it being a dorm. I just wish prices in the general weren’t so high, one day I paid £3.80 for a coffee in local independent caf and they set me a ten min time limit to drink it and scarper. Free tea and coffee at breakfast was great, and the buffet looked really good. Shared seating area was also super useful as a breakout space to work and charge phone

Even with such a central location in the height of the summer it was a peaceful stay. An extremely high standard of facilities, everything we needed and very comfortable.

BelgiumEven though the lockers are quite big, there is very little space for luggage (or at least in the dorm I was staying in) so it was a bit messy. The bins are stored at the end of one of the staircases, which made me feel as if I'd wandered into a corridor that I shouldn't have been in.
The location is great, the pods are quite comfortable and the system with the codes works really well. I was really happy that I didn't have to use a padlock... The showers are excellent, not always a given at a hostel. Even though it's very central, I felt like it was rather quiet. Sure, you can sometimes hear people outside, but it was hardly loud and our window was open all night. There is a nice little sitting area at the reception. The little curtains at the pods really blocked out the light.

CanadaThe pods do get stuffy in warm weather. When someone accidentally bangs on the wall of their pod, it resonates strongly through the structure. Only USB-A outlets are available in the sleeping pods - if your charger uses USB-C, you have to charge your stuff at a wall outlet outside of your pod The breakfast was decent, but lacks variety. One time they ran out of coffee.
The pods were overall more comfortable/private than bunk beds and were well designed. Lockers were the perfect size and were convenient to use. Bathroom facilities were modern and clean The location was absurdly central, and yet still quiet enough at night. The hostel building was really cool (renovated courthouse).

United StatesThe bathrooms on third floor were out of toilet paper in several stalls and out of hand soap for a day. I had to tell them twice about the issue. Once addressed, it didn't happen for the remainder of our stay.
The location of this property cannot be beat, it was in the center of everything! We felt very safe staying here due to location and "code" security. For a nominal fee, you can purchase breakfast. The staff made delicious waffles and we could make our own panini. Also provided were yogurt, porridge, juices, coffee, boiled eggs, cereal, ham, cheese and bread. Guests can use the kitchen to make their own lunch and dinner. The decor was modern and fresh. The pods allowed more privacy than typical bunk beds, were clean and comfortable and we had assigned lockers with a security code. We took advantage of the fantastic tours offered from the Code, beer tasting and a free walking tour. However the best aspect of this property was definitely the staff! They were so friendly, helpful, professional and respectful. We had a great time!

United KingdomI am not going to lie - I did find it a bit uncomfortable because I was put in a pod in a room with 6 pods, but the other 5 occupants were all of the same family - 2 adults and 3 kids! I had no clue and barged into the room looking for my pod to be met by mother and son who I am sure had no idea themselves that I was just about to invade their space! I have to say I was not expecting to be sharing a pod with a family who probably didn't want me in their space. Although they were super nice and quiet but I felt awkward about being in their space probably more than they did. I wasn't staying for long though as I was catching a flight early the next morning so it was bearable for a short time. Also I found the pods themselves to be quite small. I am a slim 5'5 woman and I was just about able to fully stretch out. So a very tall person would struggle I'd imagine? The other thing was the light in the pod could not be adjusted. I do not like sleeping in pitch black and always need a bit of light but because the dorm lights went off automatically at night, my only option was to keep my private pod light on, but this couldn't be dimmed so was too bright for a restful bit of sleep.
I liked the simplicity of the place. I just walked in, spoke briefly to reception and had my code and room number. Staff were friendly. In the main reception/kitchen area, it was very busy with people. USB and plug points in the individual pods to charge your phone etc. Curtain to pull across your pod area to keep privacy. The women's bathroom area was very clean and spacious with lots of sinks, toilets and shower areas that looked to be well maintained and not at all dirty. Please note I can only speak for the women's bathroom! I also liked that you had your own little private locker in the dorm which was easy to lock and open and was good to store your stuff as the pod is literally just your private bed space and you don't really want to have your bags in there. Location is up the Old Town, 5 mins from Princes St. I was going to the airport early that morning so it was super convenient to get the bus for the airport. Price extremely reasonable.
